Background

With 123bhp in a ‘bike that weighs less than one-and-a-half rugby forwards, the Fireblade set new standards for usable performance, back in the day.

But there is far more to the ‘Blade than a quick A-to-B time; while some criticized the refreshed model as more of a sports tourer than an out-and-out sports bike, the result was an undeniably beautifully composed machine that many thought balanced the competing demands of the track and road better than any of its competitors.

So, if you’re looking for a bike that is guaranteed to be a future classic and is at home on a racing circuit as it is the autobahn, this might just be the ‘bike of your dreams…

Overview

The owner first owned (and loved) a Fireblade back in the early noughties, so when the chance arose to buy another, he jumped at it.

After carefully restoring it back to factory specification, he’s enjoyed it sensibly, recently completing a 2,000-mile European road trip. He returned full of praise for the ‘bike, saying it: “pulls very hard, yet can cruise quietly and return 50mpg when on motorway stints.”

Exterior

The bike had been carefully modified when the current owner bought it, and while the work had been carried out to a very high standard, it wasn’t quite to his taste so invested a lot of time and money to get it back to a standard factory look.

This involved refurbing the wheels, fitting an OE ‘screen and generally making it look exactly as it did when it left the showroom in 1998.

As you can see, he’s done a very nice job.

Mechanical

Despite being in very good condition when he bought the ‘bike from its original owner (a man who had loved the Fireblade so much he bought it back in 2005 after selling it a few years previously), a fortune has been spent on getting the Honda back into the pristine condition you see today.

So it’s had new Honda OE front discs and pads (including new bolts that alone set him back £119!) and a full caliper rebuild, new brake lines and fluid.

The engine received a new cam chain tensioner, the wheels were refurbished and powder-coated before being refitted with new bearings and Pirelli tyres.

Then all the filters were replaced with Honda items and the fluids replaced. A new DID chain and sprocket were fitted and the aftermarket exhaust replaced with a standard one. The front forks were rebuilt, as was the rear damper. A new battery means that it starts on the button and a Datatool Veto alarm stops thieving toerags nicking it.

Oh, and the owner treated himself to set of heated grips too. Which look OEM, obviously.

This is not your usual tired Fireblade in need of restoration. This is the Real Deal, and wants for nothing.

History

The new owner will get two sets of keys, two alarm remote controls, two Haynes manuals, the original tool kit and a brand new, 12-month MOT.

Speaking of which, it also comes with MOTs back to 2004 (see the records below) and the only fail we could find was in 2006 for a rear tyre. It has covered fewer than 3,500 since 2004 and only a smidgeon over 23k miles in total.

Summary

This is a real time-warp ride and a chance for the new owner to relive his/her youth on one of the defining modern superbikes and future classics with this iconic 1990’s ‘bike.

Good examples that have been looked after or better still like this bike are starting to prove hard to find. We have set the guide price at £3k.

The bike is based in Ashby De La Zouch, to view use the 'Contact Seller' button above or use the comments section below to ask questions.
