Background

Back in 1953, Chevrolet's launch of a two-seater sports car was a radical departure for a marque hitherto associated almost exclusively with sensible family transport. Based on the 1952 EX-122 show car, the Corvette made use of existing GM running gear and a shortened chassis frame, around which was wrapped striking Harley Earl-styled fibre-glass coachwork.

Motive power came from Chevrolet's 235.5ci (3.8-litre) overhead-valve straight six and, unusually for a sports car, there was automatic transmission, a feature that attracted much adverse criticism at the time.

Many iterations of the Corvette have come and gone since then.

The 7th iteration of the Corvette was introduced with the 2014 model year and was the first to bear the ‘Stingray’ name since 1976.

The Z06 variant was born in 1963 and aimed squarely at customers who wanted to explore the car’s track potential.

The seventh-generation Z06 arrived in 2015 with a new LT4 supercharged 6.2L V-8 engine.

This ferocious unit produced 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque, making it GM’s most powerful engine at the time.

Odometer: 79 kms.

In common with many vehicles from the vendor’s collection, the car comes with no history or service records.

We understand that this LHD auto Corvette Z06 was bought new for the vendor’s collection in 2019.

With the proviso that we haven’t driven this car more than a few metres and can therefore only comment on its cosmetic condition, we think this Corvette Z06 is, effectively, a brand-new car and in the first-class condition that status implies.

Exterior

This bright orange car looks very striking and more or less immaculate from every angle.

The paintwork and external carbon-fibre panels are in excellent condition overall.

There are no dinks, dents, creases or ripples of any significance on the bodywork.

The carbon-fibre lift-out Targa roof panel has no scratches or marks that we can see.

The bodywork panels are straight and even. The panel gaps and shut lines are crisp and consistent.

The trim, black wheels, Brembo ceramic brake calipers, lights, lenses and badging are all as they should be.

The wheels are shod in matching Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres, which the brand describes as, ‘The street legal track tyre’.

There is a dealership badge affixed to the rear of the car.

There is a small scuff mark on the bottom of the driver’s door and another on the bodywork below it.

This a track-ready road car that left the factory in 2019 and has covered just 79 kilometres between then and now.

It’s still on its first tank of petrol.

Interior

Unsurprisingly, the interior of the car doesn’t look even remotely troubled by time, use or wear.

The tan leather upholstery is uncreased and looks to be in excellent condition. The seats are supportive, comfortable and functional.

The various carbon-fibre inserts around the interior are all in good order, as are the headlining, door cards, carpets and mats.

The luggage area is equally impressive and contains the plastic cowlings and other components for a front brake cooling kit.

The info-tainment screen on the centre console is still wearing its protective plastic film.

There is a short scratch on the metal door release button on the driver’s door.

We can’t make any claims about the full functionality of switches, knobs, levers, toggles, buttons, dials or other electrics as we haven’t driven the vehicle more than a few metres.

Mechanical

The undersides of this car are every bit as fresh and clean as the bodywork and interior.

Everything in the engine bay is in its right and proper place and seems to be clean and dry.

History

This car doesn’t come with any history or service records beyond what is shown in the photography section.

It must be registered in the country of your choice and you will need to contact the appropriate vehicle licensing agency for instructions on how to do this.

None of the paperwork shown in the gallery in any way constitutes any kind of licensing or registration certification.

Summary

Provided that the engine and mechanicals prove to be as good as the rest of this time-warp vehicle once it’s been recommissioned, then we think this is as near as you can get today to buying a brand-new, track-ready Corvette Z06 road car without paying brand-new car prices.

We’re confident to offer this virtually unused car for auction with an estimate of €30,000 - €40,000.
