Look, it’s a modern car that’s been pampered by one couple who’ve barely used it. It’s also got a clear HPI report and a main-dealer-only service history, so how many issues do you think it’s got?
Yup, almost none: Even our eagled-eyed expert declaring that, apart from a slight dent on the plastic rear bumper, “the paintwork has barely anything other than heavy swirl marks and would benefit from a paint correction”, which is surely the very definition of a #firstworldproblem
And now we’ve got that out of the way we feel able to gush because it really does present extraordinarily well with shutlines that are so narrow and consistent that they might have been drawn on with a Sharpie – and a fine-tipped one at that.
There are no dents or dinks either, nor any ripples along the doors. No scuffs on the alloy wheels either, or knocks to the door mirrors. Even the four bumper corners are free of scratches and scrapes, which is quite the feat given how badly other drivers park these days.
The Karmesinrot paint, colour code AO61, shines beautifully but then those dent- and dink-free panels provide the perfect canvas for it to do so.
One problem with that low mileage is that it is still wearing its original Bridgestone Potenza tyres, which are now so old and perished that they were raised as advisories during the last MoT. But, they’re original, which is worth something in terms of provenance, and they’re fitted to a set of very good BMW ‘292’ alloy wheels that are also free of scuffs, scrapes and other kerbing damage.
The matching metal roof rises and falls at the touch of a button and it seals VERY well; this truly is a car that combines the best attributes of a convertible and a coupé. It’s also hypnotic in action, rising and furling with a balletic precision that only a firm like BMW could pull off with such impeccable reliability.
Rollover hoops provide passive protection in the event of an incident too, while the heated rear window and fantastic weather sealing help makes this a true all-season sportscar; throw on a set of winter tyres and you could wing your way to your Swiss ski chalet in considerably more style than your neighbours in their 4x4 SUV.
