Let’s say you’re a sun-worshipper with a penchant for speed. There were plenty of manufacturers back in 2010 that would have been more than happy to sell you a fast convertible – and some of them could even have sold you a very fast one. But, and this is the crucial point, if you were a sociable soul then your options would have been more limited: if you’d had a mind to travel at 200mph in the company of three like-minded folk then your options would have been dramatically smaller. Shrunk, in fact, right down to the Bentley GTC Supersport, the lighter, more powerful, and more focused version of the already bonkers Bentley Continental Convertible.
And what a car the GTC Supersport is: with a modified 6-litre, W12, twin-turbo engine under the bonnet punching out 621bhp and a thundering 590lb/ft of torque through a reprogrammed four-wheel-drive chassis and uprated electronic dampers, there are few easier, safer or more effortless ways to waft across continents at a rate of three-miles-per-minute.
Few more luxurious, either; the convertible Supersport retains its rear seats, unlike the coupe – and what seats they are! They’re fully air-bagged too, so they’re light, safe and utterly, utterly gorgeous…
