Background

The Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud was a momentous model line for the British luxury carmaker. As one of the earliest post-war series, Rolls-Royce needed to get it right. And they did; with the Silver Cloud outselling the Bentley-badged version. Available across three generations, the Silver Cloud was, like the Silver Dawn, available with an option of speccing it with a factory-built body or following the then-more-conventional route of getting one of the coach-built versions. The first-generation iteration of the Silver Cloud was powered by a straight-six, but from the second-generation onwards, the car was bestowed with a V8 engine. This didn't just make it more powerful, it became a standard engine option in Rolls-Royce cars for a long time.

Overview

The Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud listed on The Market is a late-model long-wheelbase example. It bears the code LLCB1, displays just over 65,000 miles on the odometer, and comes with a nice black exterior paired with complementing red leather interior. This Silver Cloud II also has a spare wheel included whereas all the switches and meters on the dashboard appear to be intact. You can take a closer look at the car's condition in the detailed photo gallery below.

Exterior

The Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II continued with the same styling as its predecessor but with improvements made underneath. The major change the exterior received was with the Silver Cloud III, with its distinct quad headlamp arrangement. The design brief for the Silver Cloud was to have modern styling but without moving too far away from the classic Rolls-Royce cars' appearance.

The nearly spotless bodywork of this presented car has some prominent scratches on the front doors, but elsewhere it looks clean. While the age can be seen upon closer inspection, especially in the case of the rubber seals and the body trims, there's no doubt this Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud looks good.

Interior

It's a long-wheelbase Rolls-Royce, the Silver Cloud, so you can expect nearly unbeatable levels of comfort and craftsmanship. The interior envelopes you in its high-quality leather and walnut veneer, presented in the right amount to neither look overdone nor appear underwhelming to the buyer who's essentially spent a great amount of money to enjoy an experience that just can't be replicated in any of the lesser cars.

The LHD car's interior doesn't fall short in space or comfort, and the overall condition is noteworthy. Furthering the car's appeal as a chauffeur-driven one is the transparent cabin divider. The isolated rear cabin gets what looks like a highly comfortable bench seat, fold-down tables, and, despite the divider, decent legroom.

Mechanical

The Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II was powered by a 6.2-liter V8 engine, with the Crew-based carmaker moving on from the 4.8-liter straight-six that powered the Silver Cloud I. The car also had hydraulic brakes on all four wheels, ensuring that braking was effective without the driver having to exert too much force. Typical Rolls-Royce!

History

The Silver Cloud was one of the first prominent Rolls-Royce launches after the war, following the Wraith and the Silver Dawn. And it was quite successful, too. Available for a decade, the car got two major updates in the form of Silver Cloud II and Silver Cloud III. The former continued with the styling of its predecessor but brought along a new V8 engine.

Summary

Estimated to be valued between $30,000 and $40,000, this Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II LWB appears to be a sound example that has received some love and care in its life. The fresh interior is a testament to that whereas the exterior isn't bad, either. We suspect the black paint isn't what the car originally came with but it looks good nevertheless. The Silver Cloud II had a great classic design paired with a powerful V8 engine — a combination that's as hard to resist now as it must've been back in the day.
