“ VAT qualifying - High Spec. - Immaculately Maintained ”

This is a very decent, rather classy, relatively low mileage van/people carrier made by the fine engineers of Stuttgart.

Background

PLEASE NOTE NEW AUCTION PREMIUM 7% + VAT UNCAPPED.

There are vans where you can barely see through the windscreen for mountainous landscapes of used Styrofoam coffee cups, burger boxes and copies of The Sun.

These vans are often made of dents, dirt and attitude.

This is not one of those vans.

This particular van has a three-pointed star on it, drives better than many cars, is luxuriously appointed and can accommodate 7 passengers, plus the driver, in a fair degree of comfort and luxury.

It also comes with an exhaustive, comprehensive and detailed service history covering everything it’s ever had done to it by the specialist fleet management companies to whose care it has been entrusted.

The Vito range, designed to fit in between the larger ‘Sprinter’ and alongside the luxurious ‘Viano’ MPV, was significantly updated in 2010.

It looked smarter, was better appointed and had more efficient engines than its predecessor.

The ‘Traveliner’ was a more functional, less luxurious version of the ‘Viano’ – but was still miles ahead of most of its competitors in terms of style, quality and class.

This, we believe, is a very good example.

Overview

Full disclosure.

This particular Vito Traveliner has served (admirably, it should be said) as a company van for Bonhams Collectors’ Motorcycles.

It has been used as a people carrier, not a goods van, as befits a rather sophisticated vehicle with three rows of black leather seats and all sorts of mod cons, including fully functioning A/C.

As you might imagine, it has been diligently maintained and always serviced on schedule.

It is in excellent condition inside, outside and underneath.

This is a VAT qualifying sale also, so if the winning bid is £10k, then the auction Premium will be the minimum £700 + VAT, and the winner will pay our invoice for £10k + VAT.

Exterior

The bodywork is very decent and there are no dents or dinks of any real significance to report anywhere that we can see, save for a very shallow indentation on the driver’s door.

The shut-lines and panel gaps are as Teutonically exact and consistent as you would hope and wish to find.

The paintwork gleams brightly and has retained plenty of lustre and shine.

There is a scuff on the rubbing strake on the driver’s door, and a few more on the front valance and the grey plastic bumper on the o/s/f.

The bonnet has a few stone chips in evidence and there are various small scuffs and scrapes on the rear bumper.

The wheels are pretty good, bar a few scrapes on the nearside.

The badging, trim, lights, lenses and other exterior fixtures and fittings are all in decent nick.

Interior

The interior looks less like a van and more like a C-suite office in a management consultancy.

It’s all black leather and rather slick and stylish.

It’s also in very good condition and has evidently led a fairly gentle life, at least by the standards of other, less pampered vans.

The seats – all three rows of them – are yet to be troubled by creases, let alone patina.

The door cards, carpets and mats all look fresher than their age.

So, too, do the steering wheel, gear lever and other controls.

We haven’t pressed every button, flicked every switch or twiddled every toggle, but everything we did press, flick or twiddle did what it was meant to do and didn’t need asking twice.

Unsurprisingly, there are a few scuffs to the side panels in the storage space behind the last row of seats.

There are also a couple of stains on the otherwise fine headlining.

Mechanical

The engine bay looks clean, dry and as you would hope to find in a van that’s yet to reach 60,000 miles. Everything appears to be in its right and proper place.

The undersides of the vehicle seem to have plenty of structural integrity.

History

Bonhams Collectors’ Motorcycles has owned the van from new.

It was first serviced and maintained by a Mercedes-Benz specialist in northwest London, then passed into the ongoing care and curation of Northgate.

The full history is exhaustively documented and recorded.

It comes with manuals, handbooks, keys, a V5, a clear HPI check and a thick file of maintenance history.

Summary

This is a very decent, rather classy, relatively low mileage van/people carrier made by the fine engineers of Stuttgart.

And it’s been owned from new by a division of Bonhams, a business not unfamiliar with the careful handling, care and curation of valuable items.

We estimate this car will reach anywhere between £14,000 - £19,000.
