Background
The Mercedes-Benz C208 series of cars ran from 1997 to 2010. Available as a coupé and a convertible, it took its underpinnings from the well-respected W202 C-Class range.
Initially available with either a normally aspirated (134bhp) or supercharged (190bhp) four-cylinder engine, a 215bhp V6-engined coupé joined the range shortly after. Both body styles were made available with a 275bhp 4.3-litre V8 engine in 1999.
Facelifted in 2000, the CLK 55 AMG was unleashed two years later. This top-of-the-range model boasted a 342bhp 5.4-litre V8 engine, enough to see it streak to 62mph in 5.4 seconds.
