“ Epic performance from the F1 group in Woking. ”

An awesome piece of automotive engineering and it is in absolutely first-class condition – dynamically, mechanically and aesthetically.

Background

One of a limited series of 50, this 720S Le Mans was built to mark the 25th anniversary of McLaren’s famous win at La Sarthe.

Out of the 50 examples sold worldwide, only 16 were destined for Europe, each featuring a Le Mans dedication plate and 'McLaren 25 Anniversary Le Mans' logos.

This car is one of only six in the UK and has chassis number '006' out of the original 50 units.

Finished in Sarthe Grey, it benefits from bespoke five-spoke alloy wheels finished in gloss dark Graphite Grey to match the style of the F1 LM cars, in addition to gold brake callipers that also featured on the McLaren F1.

Additional features include a roof scoop and carbon fibre racing seats (a second set of rather more comfortable seats is currently in the car – both sets come with it).

The fully-functional roof scoop channels air to provide additional cooling for the engine while the carbon-fibre louvred front wings reduce aerodynamic lift generated by the rotation of the front wheels, as well as reducing vehicle weight.

The Le Mans boasts a vast array of options that include: MSO (McLaren Special Operations) Black Pack; stainless steel sports exhaust; Stealth Pack; black and papaya Alcantara interior theme with '25th Anniversary' stitching on the headrests and floor mats; primary interior components in carbon-fibre; MSO defined extended carbon paddles; interior ambient lighting; 360-degree park assist (parking sensors front and rear with reversing camera); vehicle tracking system; and the all-important vehicle lift system.

Overview

This remarkable car has just 1,675 miles on the clock, has always been kept warm and dry as part of a collection, and wouldn’t recognise rain or winter if you showed it pictures.

We have driven the car and can safely say that we don’t think we’ve ever driven anything quicker.

The McLaren 720S Le Mans offers almost unbelievable performance courtesy of a mid-mounted, 720PS (710bhp), M840T 4.0-litre engine.

The twin-turbocharged V8 propels the car from 0-62mph in 2.8 seconds (yes, you read that correctly), and on to a top speed of 212mph.

It sets off like a Peregrine falcon in a stoop and just keeps going until you run out of road, skill, courage or all three.

The gear change is a fast and notchy as a Gatling gun and the engine builds to a sonic crescendo that sounds for all the world like a harmonically tuned chainsaw at full chat.

It is a truly extraordinary machine.

Exterior

This beautifully sculpted car is effectively in minty-fresh showroom condition.

We could spend a lot of time just gazing at the contours, swoops, scoops, curves and angles that come together to make this, in our opinion, one of the best-looking supercars in the world.

We couldn’t find anything to complain about on either the bodywork or the paint, and even standard stone chips and scratches are far more notable for their absence than their presence.

The wheels are pristine, the tyres are still very fresh, everything is as new.

It’s all good.

Interior

The inside is as impressive, original and faultless as its exterior counterpart.

The seats currently in situ are rather more comfortable than the original carbon-fibre buckets that come with the car and they’ve been trimmed in black and papaya to match them.

The carpets are fine, as are the door cards, headlining and frunk.

Rear visibility is provided by the large, optimally placed wing mirrors – there’s really not much to see in the rear-view mirror, except for other cars becoming much smaller and more distant very quickly.

As far as we’re aware, all controls, switches, screens, displays and other electronics do as they are told in a timely and faithful manner.

Mechanical

The engine and engine bay are works of art in themselves.

All is clean, all is dry, all is present and correct.

The car’s undersides reflect its low miles and careful curation.

History

This 720S Le Mans has been maintained and serviced by McLaren Guildford.

It hasn’t had any remedial work done because it’s only covered 1,675 miles and is in immaculate condition.

The car comes with the original user manual, a quick reference booklet, the service book, a clear HPI report and an MoT certificate, with no advisories, that’s valid until 4.3.26.
