Background

"It's one of the world's most luxurious cars. In fact, only the Rolls-Royce Phantom comes close. It can carry a driver, front passenger and up to three rear passengers on a serene, silent and spacious journey." – Autocar magazine on the Maybach 57 S.

The revived Maybach brand began in 2002 with the launch of the Maybach 57 and 62: two high-performance luxury saloons that, inevitably, incorporated a good deal of contemporary Mercedes-Benz technology. The model designations were derived from their approximate lengths: 5.7 metres and 6.2 metres, respectively. Both were powered initially by a 5.5-litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine.

An enhanced version of both cars – given an ‘S’ for 'Special' - was launched at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show and featured a 6.0-litre, 604bhp V12 from the group's Mercedes-AMG division.

We have not tried to start or drive the car, and cannot vouch for its mechanical viability or functionality. It will require recommissioning prior to road use and is sold ‘as seen’.

Chassis No: WDB2401771A003322.

Engine No: 28598060001163.

Odometer: 184 km.

In common with many vehicles from the vendor’s collection, the car comes with no history or service records.

We understand from a few accompanying documents that this 2012 model-year Maybach 62S was built to the firm’s ‘Swiss specification’ and entered the vendor’s collection of static display vehicles in 2013, having covered just 118 km.

With the proviso that we haven’t tried to drive this car and can therefore only comment on its cosmetic condition, we think this 2012 Maybach 62S is, in every respect that we can think of, as good as new.

Exterior

This car looks pristine from every angle.

The ‘Alaska White’ paintwork with a ‘Cote D’Azur Blue’ metallic shoulder line is virtually flawless.

So, too, is the bodywork, which has no dinks, dents, creases or other faults that we can see anywhere.

The panels are straight and even.

The chrome work, lights, lenses and badging are all as they should be.

It looks like what it is – a car that left the factory in 2012/13, covered 184 kilometres and then entered dry, secure storage for the next decade.

Interior

The interior of the car is in equally undisturbed condition and looks like it belongs to a car that was built yesterday.

The tan leather upholstery is uncreased, unmarked and, apparently, unused.

The door cards, headlining, rear seats, carpets and mats are as good as the day they were fitted.

The veneers are rich and glossy. The curtains are fine. The sun roof looks excellent.

Nothing is broken, worn, scratched or compromised in any way. Everything looks immaculate.

We can’t make any claims about the functionality of switches, knobs, levers, toggles, buttons, dials or other electrics as we haven’t tried to start or drive the vehicle.

Mechanical

The undersides of this car are every bit as fresh and untroubled by either time or use as the rest of it.

Everything in the engine bay is in its right and proper place and seems to be clean and dry.

History

This car doesn’t come with any history or service records.

It must be registered in the country of your choice and you will need to contact the appropriate vehicle licensing agency for instructions on how to do this.

None of the paperwork shown in the gallery in any way constitutes any kind of licensing or registration certification.

Summary

Provided that the engine and mechanicals are as good as the rest of this extraordinary car, then we think this is as near as you can get today to buying a brand-new Maybach 62S and is almost certainly one of the best of its kind anywhere in the world.

We’re confident to offer this car for auction with an estimate of €150,000 - €250,000.
