Background
Launched in 2005, the E90 3-Series ran for eight years, selling an astonishing number of units - over a staggering 1.8 million.
So what does this particular E90 have to offer that makes it stand out from the 1.8 million produced? Well... cast your mind back to the days of the European Touring Car Championships around 2004. BMW had been particularly successful with the 320i, winning various races. The next step for the BMW Motorsport team was to take the 320i to the World Touring Car Championships (WTCC), which led to a new campaign and the release of something quite special.
Limited to just 2,600 units worldwide, with only 500 destined for the UK and priced at £25,000, the 320si was launched as a homologation car for the WTCC.
The new motorsport-inspired 3-Series certainly looked the part, with a new set of 18-inch wheels that were slightly wider and lighter than previous versions, giving it a more prominent stance on the road. The engine was also improved, delivering an extra 23bhp by increasing the bore, using aluminium liners, and reducing the stroke, enabling the 2.0-litre to rev to around 7,000rpm. The cylinder head was improved with bigger valves and overhead camshafts, topped off with a full carbon fibre cam cover.
