Background

Let’s say you’re a sun-worshipper with a penchant for speed. There were plenty of manufacturers back in 2010 that would have been more than happy to sell you a fast convertible – and some of them could even have sold you a very fast one. But, and this is the crucial point, if you were a sociable soul then your options would have been more limited: if you’d had a mind to travel at 200mph in the company of three like-minded folk then your options would have been dramatically smaller. Shrunk, in fact, right down to the Bentley GTC Supersport, the lighter, more powerful, and more focused version of the already bonkers Bentley Continental Convertible.

And what a car the GTC Supersport is: with a modified 6-litre, W12, twin-turbo engine under the bonnet punching out 621bhp and a thundering 590lb/ft of torque through a reprogrammed four-wheel-drive chassis and uprated electronic dampers, there are few easier, safer or more effortless ways to waft across continents at a rate of three-miles-per-minute.

Few more luxurious, either; the convertible Supersport retains its rear seats, unlike the coupe – and what seats they are! They’re fully air-bagged too, so they’re light, safe and utterly, utterly gorgeous…

Overview

With an initial purchase price of more than £186,000, this is an extensively and expensively optioned example of a rare breed that has been treasured and kept in a heated garage. Having covered fewer than 8,000 miles from new and been owned by one family (company, husband and wife), this car is still in as-new condition and has benefitted from having been serviced on-the-dot (7 times) by Bentley agents.

Please note that the Bentley will not be sold with the cherished registration number shown in the photographs.

Exterior

Finished in Beluga Black with a matching folding hood, the seller asked for a Swissvax paint protection finish to be applied before it was delivered. This might have set them back almost £1,000 but it has proven to have been worth every single penny as the coachwork is still in immaculate condition. In fact, all our valeter had to do was to rinse and chamois dry before our photographer shot these stunning images!

The 20-inch alloy wheels are also finished in Beluga Black and shod with matching Pirelli P-Zero tyres, all of which have good tread. The black wheels provide the perfect foil for the red brake calipers, which act upon carbon ceramic brake discs.

The vehicle also comes with a rear-view camera (£830), power boot opening and closing (£660), a space-saver spare wheel (£310) and a remote garage door opening controller (£235). A sophisticated tracker is also fitted.

We know the owner of this car, and can confirm it is completely accident-free and has not required any cosmetic work at all.

Interior

The lightweight carbon-fibre bucket seats are finished in dark red leather and trimmed with quilted Beluga Black inserts and piping; these complement the red hide dashboard, black-and-red door trims, and black carpets perfectly.

The centre console and dashboard is also inset with carbon-fibre weave trim and finished with a liberal sprinkling of chrome knobs, switches and controls.

The steering wheel is the optional three-spoke, two-tone leather option, which cost £335 when the car was ordered. Again, we salute the owner’s far-sightedness as the combination looks stunning and completely in keeping with the car’s nature.

Plus, there is no real wear, or tear, to describe…

Mechanical

The car is, as you’d expect given its low mileage and the care that has been lavished on it, sold without a single mechanical fault. It runs, in short, exactly like it did the day it left the factory in Crewe.

Worth noting is that the carbon ceramic brakes fitted to it were a £1,000 option at the time; given the sporting nature of the Supersport, we think that was money well-spent. They have barely been run in, and still clamp with mind-boggling force.

The engine bay is as clean as the interior and looks wonderful with delightful little touches like an alloy oil filler cap and the evocative Bentley name set in raised script down the centre.

History

It has been serviced on the dot by Bentley agents and comes with all the paperwork to prove it. This might be the most boring ‘History Highlights’ section I’ll ever write, but when you’re splashing out the price of a very nice terrace house in Leeds on a car, boring is exactly what you’re looking for…

Summary

Big, bold and ever-so-slightly brash, this Bentley Continental GTC Supersport is also utterly gorgeous and as good as new. Literally. With more Old School power than you’re ever likely to need, one of the most sophisticated and sure-footed chassis in the business, and a dash of the cad about it, we have fallen head-over-heels in love with it. Minimal mileage, effectively one owner from new, perfect history and just a few hundred made…

And it doesn’t help our cause that this example is going to be cheap, too: having cost the original owner around £13.50 per mile in depreciation alone, this barely used GTC Supersport makes way more sense than almost any other we’ve ever looked at because we estimate this example around £73 - £78,000 – still a fair chunk of money, for sure, but a positive bargain compared to buying a new one. (And, likely to prove far cheaper in the long-term than buying a higher-mileage, scruffier example in an attempt to save a few pounds upfront…). And if you keep the mileage low, it will remain as one of the ‘investment-grade’, blue-chip examples of an edition seen as a pinnacle of the Continental range.
