Overview

The Giulia is an original right hand drive car, a rare find with only around 400 built and the owner believes it was built in 1963 or 64, imported to the UK in 1965 and sold to the first of its five owners in 1966. Since then it has only covered what appears, from old MOTs and other documents, to be a genuine and very low 54,000 miles.

It was previously owned by the then chairman of Eddie Stobart, so when an expensive restoration was due in the early 1990s it was done without any corners being cut. The work was extensive with many areas welded and then then a full bare metal paint job, all to a very high standard and the car has been garaged since so remains in superb condition today. In recent years it has been maintained by Alfa specialist Titus Rowlandson of Victory Garage.

Exterior

The beautiful Pininfarina coachwork is in fabulous condition, since being restored in the 1990s the panels are unblemished with no marks, dings or chips in the panels or painta which has a deep gloss and smooth finish. The panel gaps are close to perfect with the brightwork fitting

The chrome grill and bumpers are excellent with little to no pitting, and the badges are bright and clear. The black fabric hood is recent and in great shape, deep black and in fine condition, and the plastic rear screen is nice and clear with no creases. When lowered the hood folds neatly behind the seats, keeping body line flat and there is a full tonneau cover to popper on when the car is parked with the top down.

The steel wheels are excellent, no chips in the paint and the hubcaps are also flawless, with deep tread on the Pirelli tyres.

Interior

The cabin is immaculate, its not known whether the seats were reupholstered or are original as the condition is excellent with no wear and just a little stretching to the vinyl fabric. The carpets and door cards are similarly as new, and the door furniture also looks good.

In the body colour metal dashboard is a period radio and the Veglia dials have just a hint of pitting to the chrome rings.

In the boot is the original tool roll, wheel brace and jack and a spare Pirelli tyre is included.

Mechanical

The Alfa benefits from the larger 1600 twin cam engine and we are told it runs sweetly and there is no sign of oil or water leaking from anywhere, and the owner believes it to be the original matching numbers unit. This is a rare original right hand drive car, not a conversion, believed to be one of only around 400 built.

Looking under the car we can see it has been undersealed and appears to remain a solid underneath since restoration. There is some red paint worn from the very bottom edges of the front valance and sills

History

Restored in 1991, the car was stripped down and had an extensive no expense spared renovation including new door skins and many areas of new metal let in before being given very good paint. It has been garaged and mostly dry used since so remains in fantastic condition today, and the owner tells us it has recently had a new hood.

Summary

The condition of this Spider is incredible, the pictures show the outstanding job the restorers did and it has been well kept and maintained by experts and not over used in the meantime. It has low miles and few owners, who are all known in the cars history.

These have to rank as one of the most beautiful cars ever built, and this example is in pristine condition, it would be hard to find a better one.

We think this Spider will reach somewhere between £60,000 - £80,000.
