Background

A 2012 special edition that came hard on the heels of the very well received Abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari edition, the Abarth 695 Maserati Edition is based on the humble Fiat 500C.

Well, kind of.

Because it also features 305mm, four-piston, Brembo brakes plus Koni dampers. It’s got a trick exhaust too, which opens up at 3,000rpm to give a more appropriate exhaust note through the Maserati-style hexagonal exhaust tips.

A more appropriate exhaust note? Hell yes, because this bad boy is powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that develops 177bhp and feeds that power to the front wheels via a five-speed Abarth Competizione automated manual gearbox complete with steering wheel paddles.

Thus equipped, it hits 62mph from rest in less than seven seconds and hits a top speed of 140mph.

All are finished in Pontevecchio Bordeaux paint – a Maserati colour, natch – with a grey fabric soft-top. It also benefits from xenon headlamps and what are said to be “Maserati-inspired” 17-inch alloy wheels with Neptune’s trident spokes.

The cabin continues the Maserati theme with sand beige leather upholstery, two-tone Abarth mats, and matching inserts on the black leather steering wheel. There are plenty of 695 logos of course, plus a matt-carbon lined dashboard. The door and rear trims have a grey flock finish.

A set of Jaeger instruments, a dashtop turbo gauge, aluminium pedals with the scorpion logo, and a nine-speaker, 400W stereo with high-end JBL speakers complete the upgrades.

With only 499 ever produced, it is thought that only about 20 were imported in right-hand-drive, of which this is one…

Overview

First registered on the 28th of November 2013 and number 34 of 499 ever built, this fabulous Editizone Maserati was in the care of its first owner until 2016.

Bought then by the ex-MD of Maserati UK to complete his collection, it’s been kept in storage since.

Now being offered with a very sensible reserve, this is your opportunity to buy a barely used example of a car you thought you’d missed out on…

Exterior

The Pontevecchio Bordeaux coachwork looks stunning – but then what else would you expect on a car that’s lived a more privileged and pampered life than most of the Kardashians?

So, while we could waffle on about tight shutlines, ripple-free flanks, and a stunning finish to the paint (all of which would be true…) the fact is that this looks like a one-year-old car rather than one that won’t see eight again.

The fabric roof slides to and fro at the press of a button as it should, and seals nice and tight. Obviously, there’s no damage and its size means that it really does offer the best of all worlds.

The Neptune design 17-inch alloy wheels are in a fabulous condition being as fresh and unsullied as everything else. They’re shod with matching 205/40R17 Michelin Pilot Exalto tyres, all of which have good tread.

As we will never tire of explaining, our experience shows that matching high-quality tyres are an infallible sign of a caring and mechanically sympathetic owner who is prepared to spend the appropriate amount in maintaining their car properly. Their presence does not, of course, preclude the need for a thorough inspection - something the vendor would welcome, by the way – but it does perhaps give you an insight into their attitude towards maintenance.

Interior

The sand beige leather interior looks fabulous. Of course, those competition-inspired front seats set the tone being as good looking as they are supportive.

Everything else is still as close to perfect as you might find in a 7 year old classic, with no serious visible wear to either the headlining, carpets, door cards, dashboard or anywhere else.

In fact, the only wear we can see is to the steering wheel, with some grubbiness to the tricolour trim at the top.

After its period of storage, teh A/C is not pumping out cold air. That everything else works goes without saying, surely?

Mechanical

The Abarth has just had the one service, carried out ahead of the scheduled mileage on the 14th of October 2015 at 9,155 miles. A new service might be on the cards if you wish to use the Abarth as it was intended.

The engine bay, complete with the iconic Abarth scorpion, is clean and neatly organized.

We’ve driven it and can confirm that it drives as it should, fizzing along with barely constrained enthusiasm and an almost unholy dedication to getting from A-to-B with as much enthusiasm as possible.

As for the underside, what can we say? Bar some light surface rust on the exhaust, the rest is as immaculate as you’d expect on a car that’s covered such a trivial mileage.

History

The Abarth has a new MOT certificate, which is valid until August 2021, was gained without a single advisory point.

It has an expired MOT certificate plus the original owner’s handbook, fully stamped service history, book pack, and storage wallet, and two keys. It also still has its safety pack, toolkit, and an indoor car cover.

Please visit the documents section of the gallery of this listing where you will find photos of this and other paperwork to support our claim that this car has been maintained to a very good standard.

Summary

A short-but-sweet listing, there’s little to say about this stunning little car other than it is in fabulous condition and in need of nothing other than love and continued pampering.

A must-buy if you’ve got a Maserati in the garage, we’d suggest that it would make the ideal sensible shopping car to support your full-blown supercar but after having driven it we can see you might even choose it over its inspirational older sibling…

With a guide price of somewhere between £26,000 and £32,000, this is an awful lot of fun, albeit at a price. But, these limited-edition Abarths tend to maintain their value very well for a modern car, so the cost of ownership might work out to be more reasonable than you think in the long-term.

Viewing is always encouraged, and this particular car is located with us at The Market HQ near Abingdon; to arrange an appointment please use the Contact Seller button at the top of the listing.
