Overview

Today’s example is a Series IV Silver Spur. Series IVs were produced from 1995 to 1999. The Silver Spur is powered by a 6.75L L410 V8 mated to a GM 4L80E 4-speed automatic transmission, which is the same setup Rolls had been running since the Spur’s introduction in 1980. However, a major new change to this setup for Series IV was the inclusion of a Garrett turbocharger. Furthermore, engine management systems from Series IV switched from Bosch to Zytec. The car has unitary bodywork manufactured by Pressed Steel. Silver Spirits and Spurs also have hydropneumatic self-levelling suspension with Girling automatic hydraulic ride height control systems and gas-charged shock absorbers. The suspension setup received an important upgrade during the Series III run. Series I and II Spur suspensions would default to “hard” ride mode once worn out, so the Series III’s suspension was modified to default to “soft” ride mode once worn out, and the Series IV obviously inherited this.

Exterior

This specific Silver Spur is finished in white. It sports signature Rolls Royce pinstriping down both sides from bumper to bumper. The paint on this behemoth is in great shape. There are three areas where minor imperfections occur. The front license plate mount hosts some cracked black plastic that may be stuck on with an adhesive of some sort, the driver’s door lines up rather poorly with the corresponding front quarter panel, and there is a minor scuff mark on the rear bumper above the exhaust. The chrome around the car is in impeccable shape, and the wheels reflect like freshly installed mirrors.

Interior

The interior is ready to go. There are a couple stains, but no major work will be necessary. The Oatmeal leather seats have very little creasing and there are no cracks, holes, or tears to be seen. The rear bench is in even better shape with just the middle seat being ever so slightly stretched. The Cotswold floor mats could use a deep cleaning. The driver’s floormat is the worst offender of the bunch, and there is another large stain in the back seat behind the driver. The tan leather-wrapped steering wheel is clean barring three miniscule marks in the center. Wooden inlays are abundant in this Spur from front to back and they are sublime. There is one minor chip in the driver’s door panel, and there is a chip in the tray mounted behind the passenger seat. Besides those, imperfections in the wood were hard to come by. The trunk is clean, and some license plate mounts are stored there as well.

Mechanical

This Silver Spur has a clean underside. It harbors no major damage, and it appears that no corrosion is occurring either. Curiously, it looks like the car at one point drove or parked on top of a plastic bag, and that plastic bag melted and subsequently fused itself to the exhaust. However, it will likely only take a razor blade to fix that.

History

Document history available to us on this specific Silver Spur is limited. We do know that this car was in Long Beach, California before being bought by the seller in May of 2010. Based on the condition of this Silver Spur, it is beyond clear that the seller took good care of this Rolls over the past 12 years. Build sheets for the car are available as well. Optional extras on this Spur are veneered door panels, and fully wrapped veneered waist rails.

Summary

The Silver Spur available here is in excellent condition. Exterior imperfections are incredibly minor, and the interior is in unbelievably good condition as well. Thanks to fantastic suspension, supremely comfortable seats, and a gorgeous dash, this is a wonderful opportunity to purchase a fantastic Rolls that is both classically styled and new enough to have all of the modern creature comforts you could want at an excellent price.

The Market by Bonhams is excited to offer this Silver Spur for online auction with no reserve at an estimate between $5,000 and $10,000.

It should be noted that this vehicle has been on static display for a number of years and there is no history available beyond that displayed in our photography section.

We have not started or driven the car so cannot vouch for its mechanical viability or functionality. It will require recommissioning prior to road use and is sold ‘as seen’.

Please note that the title for this vehicle is in transit.
