Background

The Rolls Royce Silver Spur is a long wheelbase version of the Silver Spirit produced from 1980 to 2000. Over its 20-year production run the Silver Spur received multiple refreshes and was the first Rolls Royce car to feature a retractable Spirit of Ecstasy.

Overview

This specific example is a Silver Spur Extended. The Spirit and Spur have hydropneumatic self-levelling suspension with Girling automatic hydraulic ride height control systems and gas-charged shock absorbers. Likely because of the advanced suspension tech in the Spur, this vehicle was selected to be the recipient of a Hearse conversion.

Exterior

Finished in black, a common trend in the Hearse community, the Spur presents itself as a no-frills professional. The exterior is smooth, and the body panels don’t show any major dents. Viewers with a keen eye will notice a second rear-view mirror has been mounted to the passenger side of the hood for added blind spot visibility. The vinyl top appears clean if not ever so slightly faded, although it does look to be separating from the metal above the windshield. Overall, this is a solid exterior.

Interior

Opening either of the front doors reveals an extraordinary cockpit. From head to toe, everything in this interior has been wrapped in deep blue velour. It looks both haunting and excellent. The driver’s seat shows more creasing than the passenger. The wooden dash and its many gauges appear to be tidy, and the steering wheel still shines with plenty of varnish. On the passenger side of the dash, one will quickly notice a handful of chips that unfortunately litter most of the blue trim surrounding the glovebox.

Opening any of the rear doors reveals an almost cavernous space for “hauling.” Much like the front compartment, everything here has been draped with deep blue fabric. Well, whatever the winner decides to put back there can rest assured knowing their items will be well lit by four seashell lamps and car-sized chandelier that adorn the walls and ceiling.

Mechanical

Typically, first generation Spurs like this one received the basic design of Silver Shadow, the Shadow’s 6.75L L410 V8, a GM-sourced THM400 3-speed automatic gearbox, and unitary bodywork manufactured by Pressed Steel. Considering this vehicle is highly modified compared to the original, we have to assume that the motor and transmission may have been swapped as well. The current motor appears to be an 8-cylinder of some kind with an Edelbrock air filter.

History

This vehicle is sold without known history. It should be noted that the Car Fax for the vehicle does have an 'exceeds mechanical limit' warning in regards to the vehicle's true mileage.

Summary

This Silver Spur is certainly an interesting one. It might be highly specialized, but the craftsmanship displayed in the interior and rear compartment is fantastic. Estimated $5,000 - $15,000.
