Background

The Suburban is a full-size SUV built by Chevrolet and GMC beginning in 1935 and extending to the present day. The 1935 Chevrolet Carryall Suburban was one of the first production all-metal bodied station wagons. In 1973, General Motors introduced the seventh generation of the Suburban, which was manufactured through the 1991 model year.

Overview

The seventh generation Suburban uses the GM Rounded Line truck chassis, was marketed as a truck-based station wagon, and was sold by both Chevrolet and GMC under the same nameplate. Measuring nearly 3 feet longer than the Jeep Wagoneer, the Suburban and Sierra mainly competed against each other. This was the first time the Sierra/Suburban was built with four-doors. This specific Sierra has a new Jasper 454 motor with 0 miles on it, Flowmaster exhausts, and replaced shocks and brakes.

Exterior

This Sierra’s exterior is a two-tone red and cream paintjob. The paint around the car is in great condition, however, there are still some minor flaws. There are two tiny chips on the hood, and tow tiny chips in the cream portion of the rear door. The chrome bumpers and trim are all clean and straight. The steel rims are clean, and the tires do not appear to be cracking. The badging around the car would benefit greatly from a deep cleaning, but none of the pieces are heavily damaged. The housing to each hinge at the bottom of each of the rear doors have cracked, although they don’t appear to be harming the doors’ ability to open and close.

Interior

The Sierra comes equipped with a very cozy-looking red cloth interior. The black leather-wrapped steering wheel is in fantastic condition and the metal dash behind it looks good aside from a few minor scuff marks. The bench seat up front looks great but there are three small tears in the fabric to keep an eye on. This car is modern enough to have all the main creature comforts, but that hasn’t stopped the seller or a previous owner from fitting in an aftermarket Alpine stereo for modern convenience which is always appreciated. The stereo is also joined by a delightfully large subwoofer resting in the trunk directly behind the rear bench. The door panels are clean, and none of the pieces look particularly worn down aside from the pocket pouch in the driver’s door. There is a large Weathertech cargo liner covering the floor of the trunk, but when lifted it reveals the stock carpeting to be in excellent condition. The trend of great carpeting continues under the rear bench and all the way to the front seats. Speaking of the rear bench, it is in fantastic condition, and there are no holes or tears to be seen. The headliner is tight and does not appear to be sagging in any area.

Mechanical

We are pleased to report that the undercarriage of this Sierra is clean. All of the components are clean including the leaf springs, although they do sport some minor surface corrosion. The exhaust is particularly tidy. The engine bay is clean and none of the pieces are exhibiting any corrosion.

History

The seller purchased this Sierra online a number of years ago with the goal of having a car with enough space to comfortably sit both himself and his Great Dane. Ultimately, the dog didn’t spend much time in the car, but that didn’t stop the seller from making a number of additions. Modifications are as follows: replaced shocks and brakes, a new Jasper 454 motor with 0 miles on it, an aftermarket alarm with remote start, a separate factory rear air conditioner, tinted windows, 2 hard wired funny horns that play several sounds and jingles, a PA microphone, an Alpine bluetooth stereo/phone, a rearview mirror with camera, and Flowmaster exhausts. Also included with the sale are the Weathertech cargo liner, a replacement carpet kit, and period correct saddle blanket seat covers. Any cinephiles out there might quickly notice that a Sierra of the same year and paintjob was used in Cry Macho, the most recent Clint Eastwood film.

Summary

The Sierra/Suburban is the first true full-size SUV. Invented in 1935, it could be argued Chevrolet was the first company to identify consumers that need to move themselves and a lot of items together as a new market segment. They were right, which is why the Sierra has undergone 12 generations. The seventh generation Sierra is full of 80s vibes, with a fighter plane instrument cluster and velour seats, this is one SUV you will not want to get out of. This Sierra is absolutely loaded with fun modifications, performance parts, and party tricks, so road warriors rejoice, because your ultimate hauler has arrived.

The Market by Bonhams is excited to offer this GMC Sierra 2500 for online auction with no reserve, and an estimate between $10,000 and $14,000.
