Background
Introduced in 2007 as the first Shelby Mustang since 1970, the S197 chassis GT500 topped Ford’s modular 32-valve 5.4 V8 with a supercharger for a full 500 hp. Designed and built in collaboration by Ford’s Special Vehicle Team (SVT) and Shelby, fewer than 25,000 were made for 2007, 2008, and 2009 model years combined.
Only a fraction of that figure were sent back to Shelby for Super Snake conversion, a package offered from 2008 and available in two states of tune–600 or 725+ hp, the latter capable of 200 mph and 10-second range ¼ mile times right out of the box.
