Background

Everyone knows the Abarth 500. The revival was brilliantly orchestrated by Fiat, and in 2007 it was equipped with a 1.4 turbo, initially with 135 horsepower, body-built fenders and a number of specific parts bearing the Scorpion logo. It quickly became the coolest hot hatches in town. To promote its little GTI, Fiat launched a trophy on the Italian circuit in 2009. 49 cars will be produced, called 500 Assetto Corse.

Overview

Under the bonnet, the 1.4 T-jet is increased to 190 bhp and 300 Nm of torque, thanks to a turbo and an intercooler from the Alfa Romeo Mito. It's meant to be affordable, both in terms of wallet and driving.

Make no mistake, the 500 Assetto Corse is still a genuine racing car. The weight is only 930 kilos, 180 kg less than the road version. The transmission is a 6-speed manual gearbox to preserve the best racing feelings. A mechanical self-locking differential has been added to guarantee traction and delay understeer.

As for braking, although the ABS has been removed and the front / rear split has been made adjustable thanks to the addition of a pressure limiter, assistance has been retained. Riveted to the road on 17-inch OZ Racing Made in Italy wheels (205/50 ZR 17 tyres), we note the presence of large Brembo discs with 4-piston callipers and ventilated perforated discs measuring 305 x 28 mm at the front (264 x 11 mm at the rear).

Exterior

The Abarth set-up is in full racing style: wider track, lowered set-up and numbering on the sides. At the front we find wide bumper with an aerodynamic spoiler, woven grilles, hood pins and two carbon air intakes that bear the “Scorpione” logo, giving the whole front an aggressive look. At the rear, the large spoiler prevails together with the Abarth badge and double exhaust. The colour of this #25 of 49 is "grigio campovolo", a pastel grey with red Abarth side stripes, which recalls the Abarth 850 TC of the 1960s.

Interior

Delivered assembled, the Assetto Corse offers a body reinforced by a welded multipoint roll cage. A real tubular chassis that you have to step over to get into the bucket seat and the Sabelt harnesses. We also appreciate the all-carbon door panels and the Alcantara sports steering wheel. Getting to grips with the Assetto Corse is easy and rewarding. When driving, the turbo noise is omnipresent.

Mechanical

The suspension of the Assetto Corse consists of MacPherson struts at the front with height-adjustable sports shock absorbers. At the rear we find an interconnected arms system, with the same ring nut for adjusting height, and sports absorbers. There is not much to say about a car with 31 kilometres on the clock that has spent most of its life sitting on display: it is clearly as new as you would expect.

History

Seller's note: car subject to VAT, tax receipt. If a professional buys it, he can recover the VAT.

This 2009 Abarth 500 Assetto Corse has the chassis number ZFA312000*00199693, it is the 25th one out of 49 produced in 2009 for the Italian monocoupe. It was ordered new by the Livorno dealership and remained in the showroom as an image car until 2018.

It has never been raced and has 31 kilometres on the clock. It still has its original Michelin Radial X tyres. An interesting detail is that the car has an Italian registration card and can therefore potentially be driven on open roads.

Its current owner acquired it in 2018. It completed his collection of Italian cars including several Fiat: original 595 Abarth from 1971, 500 Giannini and other Moretti.

The car starts and runs, everything works as it should. The seller specifies that it comes with its original bag including helmet, shoes, gloves and overalls for the driver, all with the Abarth logo.

Summary

This is a rare opportunity to acquire an authentic virgin race car, probably one of the last in this condition in Europe.

Price estimate for this Abarth 500 Assetto Corse 49: € 45.000 - € 60.000
