Background

Please note: Due to the winning bidder defaulting on their purchase, this vehicle is being relisted.

Having a motorcycle is crucial for the army, especially when dealing with harsh terrain. Like mountains, narrow passes, and even the forest. A motorcycle can't just be transported easily, it should also be serviced quickly. And while not bulletproof by any means, generally, there aren't many complicated mechanicals involved with motorcycles, which ensures reliability. For the Swiss Army, the motorcycle of choice in the 1970s was the Condor A350.

Overview

The Ducati-engined motorcycle served well in the army and was appreciated for its ride comfort. When in service, these could be mounted not just with extra bags but also guns for both rider and pillion. The ex-army example featured here appears to be in okay shape, and we don't think it'd be wrong to assume that it's ready for another adventure. Chassis number 740934 is also accompanied by a tool kit.

Exterior

It'd be wrong to expect an ex-military motorcycle to have Concours-ready bodywork. These were put to hard use, and that shows with this example too. On the whole, it looks decent but will benefit from TLC, that's for sure. The chrome bits still shine and some of the badges/logos are still intact. It gets two saddlebags, a left-side mirror, and even a mudflap at the rear.

Interior

Not applicable here, but from behind the upright handlebar, one would see a nice 140 km/h speedometer along with telltale lights.

Mechanical

The motorcycle's double-cradle frame benefitted from rubber mounts, a suspension system comprised of conventional shocks, and both the front and rear had drum brakes. The kick starter was mounted on the left, and so was the brake pedal. This example comes with Metzeler tires on spoke rims. It got a single-cylinder Ducati engine which made 25 hp.

History

It's said that Condor made about 3,000 examples for the Swiss Army in the 1970s. With Condor's expertise in building motorcycles matching the Ducati engine, it created a momentous product. It was by no means made to offer outright performance, but rather reliable, long life. And the ability to go where other forms of transport might falter. Odometer shows 30,609 miles.

Summary

Owning a Condor A350 is not a chance that comes often. This ex-army example might have some scars, but it looks solid. The cool-looking motorcycle is estimated to be valued between $1,500 and $2,500. You can refer to the high-quality photos below to get a clearer idea about the motorcycle.

PLEASE NOTE: The vehicles from this collection have been sitting for a number of years. Mechanical and running condition of each lot is unknown, and they are being sold 'as is'. This vehicle is being sold on Bill of Sale only.
