Background
The first new Bentley developed entirely under Volkswagen Group ownership, 2003’s Continental GT was initially quite a controversial machine, utilizing as it did an entirely new engine and platform with no historic ties to the highly formal, traditional world of high-end British luxury vehicles.
Traditionalists’ fears soon subsided, however, as the Conti GT and its derivatives proved to be entirely suitable torch bearers for Bentley’s sacred values of luxury, speed, and grace.
Motivated by a fabulously complex 6.0 liter W12 with four banks of cylinders, four cams, 48 valves, and twin turbos, the CGT was as fast as it was smooth, while all-wheel drive, sophisticated chassis tuning, and advanced electronic controls allowed all of its 552 hp and 479 lb-ft to be employed at will even in the wet.
