Background
Heritage is important, and never more so than for companies like MG for whom it offers an opportunity to shift new metal on the back of its illustrious past. So, when the re-manufactured British Motor Heritage MGB bodyshell made its appearance in the early nineties, senior MG managers realised that all those shiny new bodyshells would make the perfect platform for a new car to battle the wildly successful Mazda MX-5: Project Adder was born.
But the MG RV8, as Project Adder became known, is much more than a rebodied MGB; 95% of the exterior body panels are unique to the model, helping lend it a more modern look, and the engine is the 3.9-litre, 185bhp Rover/Buick V8, giving it both muscle and a lovely growl - in addition to a six-second 0-60mph time and a top speed of 130mph.
