Background

The Kawasaki Z1000 A1 is one of the original Japanese superbikes. Available from the factory in either Diamond Wine Red or Diamond Sky Blue, the Z1000 was an improved and updated – not to mention faster! - version of the much-loved Z900.

With 83bhp and handling to match, the Z1000 A1 is a genuinely quick ‘bike, even today. Don’t let that old-fashioned sit-up-and-beg riding position fool you; the Z1000 is still more than capable of keeping up with almost anything on the road today bar ultra-exotics.

Overview

With just 29,000 miles on the clock, this is a fabulous opportunity to get your hands on a retro classic ‘bike in fantastic condition. It was imported from the United States in 1995 (hence the single front disc brake, rather than the twin-disc front brakes of UK-spec ‘bikes), it then spent years in a motorcycle shop’s window.

The present owner only bought it this year but the purchase of a rare and historically important car in need of urgent restoration forces the reluctant sale of a motorcycle that just isn’t being used enough to warrant its continued place in his collection.

Exterior

The paintwork is in fine condition, as you can see from the photographs. It may well have benefitted from a respray at one time as the gold coachlines don’t look to be original, but that shouldn’t detract from the presence (and menace, if we’re being honest…) this bike exudes

Mechanical

Everything works as it should and the ‘bike comes with a box of spares courtesy of the previous owner’s recommissioning work.

Importantly, all the numbers match and are correct for the A1 model. Also of note is the exhaust, which is the extraordinarily rare original and still features the identification numbers stamped on it. Yes, it’s been patched in a couple of places but have you ever seen an OE exhaust on one of these before?

The chromework is in fine order too, and the tyres have plenty of tread. The new owner will be able to jump on and ride off into the sunset with complete confidence.

History

Unfortunately there is not any history from before the bike was imported into the UK a few years ago. Luckily with these motorbikes everything that you need to know can be seen with the naked eye and it does not take much looking to realise what a special example this bike is.

Summary

The price of classic ‘bikes is on the march and this Kawasaki Z1000 A1 is a good candidate for further growth.

The value of motorbikes like this is chiefly determined by condition and provenance, and this example scores highly on both counts with its condition being living proof of its pampered life.

Add in the value of correct numbers and a wealth of original features, and you can see that this Kawasaki would be a fine buy for either the collector or retro-motorcycle enthusiast!

The bike can be viewed at Patina HQ in South Oxfordshire. To arrange to view use the 'Contact Seller' button above or ask questions and discuss in the comments section below.
