Background

Available as both a 2+2 coupe and convertible, the XK was badged as the XK8 when fitted with a normally aspirated V8 engine, or the XKR when built as a supercharged V8 monster.

Designed as a grand tourer in the Jaguar tradition rather than an out-and-out sportscar, the XK8 shared its chassis with the Aston Martin DB7, making the XK8 the thinking man’s choice when it comes to buying a powerful, rear-wheel-drive luxury convertible sportscar.

Background

Available as both a 2+2 coupe and convertible, the XK was badged as the XK8 when fitted with a normally aspirated V8 engine, or the XKR when built as a supercharged V8 monster.

Overview

This example stands head and shoulders above the average XK8 on condition alone but for fans of the Modfather himself, the fact that it was previously owned by Paul Weller himself is the icing on what was an already an especially attractive cake. While it may have lost Paul’s ‘JAM 936N’ private number plate, all of its considerable cool remains intact.

Exterior

The car currently sits on a set of 20-inch, original equipment Jaguar ‘Daytona’ alloy wheels, an indulgence that set the owner back the thick-end of £3,000... However, Jaguar aficionados will appreciate the fact that the originals, complete with tyres, are available with the car and included in the sale.

Also included is a custom fibreglass tonneau cover that sits behind the rear seats, neatly hiding the furled blue fabric hood (which is itself in perfect condition). The cover has been carefully painted to match the bodywork and endows the car with a profile that echoes that of heritage Jaguar cars like the glorious XKSS and D-Type.

Interior

The seats are unmarked, as are the dashboard and door trims. In fact, we’d go as far as to say that the interior is as good as the day it left the factory. All the (many) toys work and the XK8 is every inch the luxury British sportscar to sit in. What more can we say?

Mechanical

This XK8 hasn’t just been well-maintained, it’s been cherished and polished to within an inch of its life; you could eat your dinner off the engine, for example: The owner admits to being extremely fussy about his cars and their maintenance and this example is living proof that the old cliché ‘no expense spared’ is sometimes true.

The only issue of note is some corrosion to the nearside floorpan (unfortunetly not uncommon on XK8s) that was picked up by the MOT test in 2014. The area has been professionally restored and the owner would welcome an inspection by prospective bidders in order for them to reassure themselves as to the quality and integrity of the repair.

History

A replacement service book shows a full Jaguar service history, and this provenance is supplemented by a thick wad of old invoices, as well as the original handbooks for the car and a sheaf of old MOT certificates.

A history check (certificate in the history below) shows nothing untoward and supports the provenance of this car.

Summary

Whilst the price of £15,000 isn’t cheap, we think it’s a bargain given how much love and attention has been lavished on this car; this is an extraordinarily good example of what could well be the next Big Jaguar Thing.

With prices having risen by over 20 percent in the past twelve months, we think that this car will appeal to a canny buyer with an eye to the future as well as anyone who appreciates who good life would be with a V8-powered Jaguar convertible in it.

The car can be viewed in Cornwall, to arrange please use the 'Contact Seller' button at the top of the listing. Feel free to ask any questions in the comments or view our frequently asked questions below.
