Background
The Jaguar XJS is an instantly recognizable British icon thanks to its purposeful stance, long bonnet and, of course, its trademark flying buttresses.
First unveiled in 1975, the XJS was given its revised, fuel-efficient 300bhp, V12 H.E. engine in 1982. Not quite Prius levels of efficiency admittedly, but bear with us... because you can forgive almost anything – even single-digit fuel consumption - when a car sounds and goes like the XJS V12 does.
And, as we all know, the only thing better than a V12 Jaguar coupe is a V12 Jaguar convertible; if there is a better looking open grand tourer from the period we’ve yet to see it, so the loss of those gorgeous flying buttresses is a small price to pay when it enables to enjoy what was probably the most beautiful and elegant car of its time. It is one design that many think has grown better and better as the years have passed by.
