Background

Designed by the then-fledgling Ian Callum, the Aston Martin DB7 Vantage was revealed to an overwhelmingly positive reception at the 1993 Geneva Motor Show, and was put into production. Engineered in Oxfordshire, the DB7 did nothing short of transform the state and fortunes of Aston Martin upon its launch, eventually becoming the most popular and successful car Aston had ever made upon its replacement in 2004.

Initially launched with a 3.2-litre supercharged straight-six engine, the word ‘Vantage’ was brought back into Aston Martin’s vocabulary in 1999, when the V12 version was launched and christened the Aston Martin DB7 Vantage.

Powered by a 6.0-litre, 414hp V12 engine, the Vantage could smash 0-62 in just 5.2 seconds, and go on to a limited top speed of 165mph. When a manufacturer has to limit the top speed of a car, you know it’s something special.

Overview

This particular example is a 2001 DB7 Vantage, presented in a fantastic colour combination of Ice Blue Metallic over a Navy Blue interior. Showing just 79,178 miles on the odometer, it is clear that this example has been cherished throughout its life, as a top-shelf Aston should be.

That mileage figure may be on the higher side, but the car has clearly been used sparingly in its recent history, having only accrued only slightly over 10,600 miles in the last 10 years.

During its current ownership, it has been completely treated with Dinitrol underseal, making sure to keep all rust at bay. In fact, the underside of this car is in nothing short of excellent condition, with this preventative maintenance paying huge dividends.

The private plate is included with the sale of the vehicle.

Exterior

Ice Blue Metallic is a fantastic choice for the sweeping, refined lines of the DB7, and this car presents in absolutely wonderful condition. The only signs of wear-and-tear on the bodywork appear to be a few small stonechip-sized marks on the edge of the front wheel arches, along with the expected minor chips to the front end. This is a car that has covered over 70,000 miles, and with that powerful V12 up front, its safe to say they probably weren’t all covered at a sedate pace. Therefore, some stone chips are to be expected, but they certainly don’t detract from the fantastic overall condition of the car.

All four wheels look to be in great shape, though there are a few kerbing marks to the edges of the front wheels.

Keen-eyed viewers will note that the front grille has been upgraded to a mesh item. In our opinion, it looks all the better for it as it transforms the front end of the car, though the original grille is also included. We’d certainly move out the way if we saw this approaching in the rear-view mirror!

Interior

Inside, this DB7 presents in very good overall condition. The seats are mostly unmarked save for the usual age-related wear to the outer driver’s side bolster, while the front passenger seat shows signs of being used regularly, but is free from any damage. The rear ‘bucket-style’ seats are in fine fettle, and appear to have been rarely ever used.

The front footwell over-mats have seen better days, and while the passenger side mat is in good, usable condition, the driver’s mat is likely beyond saving and shows heavy signs of wear. There also appears to be a trim alignment issue with the glovebox door, as seen in the photographs.

While there are a few other age-related marks around the cabin - all of which have been photographed - this is still a nigh-on 20-year-old car, and presents very well indeed for its age.

Mechanical

As previously mentioned, the car has been given a full Dinitrol rustproofing treatment during the vendor’s ownership, meaning the underside of the car is in excellent condition.

The plethora of invoices included with the car state that there were a number of corrosion-related works carried out prior to this treatment, including work to the offside boot inner, though judging by the recent MOT tests all prior advisories have been taken care of, with no mention of corrosion or bodywork issues.

History

One of the biggest selling points of this DB7 Vantage is the history file. Grab a cup of tea, sit down and settle in, as there is plenty to take in here.

The main attraction here is the Aston Martin service record. Complete and fully stamped, the services have all been carried out by Aston Martin dealerships with the records to prove, meaning this DB7 has not only been serviced by the best, but also regularly checked over.

It’s not just the service history that is impressive, however. From invoices for various works carried out, including new tyres, rust treatments, welding and general consumables, to past MOT certificates tracking the milage and condition of the car, you can get an impressive picture of the car’s history just by going through the paperwork.

We include an online HPI report run at the auction start which shows no finance outstanding and no insurance markers for theft or damage.

Summary

A fantastic example of a modern classic that is starting to come into its own, if you’re in the market for a well-sorted DB7 with an extensive history file and full Aston Martin servicing, then this is the one for you.

From the fantastic colour combination of Ice Blue Metallic over a Navy interior, to its excellent external condition and fully treated chassis, this V12-powered GT is just waiting for its next owner to take it to the likes of Monaco, St Tropez and the Italian Riviera - just as Aston Martin intended.

We estimate this car to achieve around £17,000 - £22,000 in auction.
