Background
Following the huge success of the T1 Split Screen, 1967 brought us the production of the second-generation VW T2. Commonly known as the bay-window, the T2 is slightly larger and heavier than its predecessor, and was given the 47 bhp 1.6 litre engine, and a 12-volt electrical system.
A number of different body configurations were used for the second-generation Type 2, ranging from the Type 21 Panel Van, Type 22 Microbus, Type 23 Kombi, Type 24 Microbus L (which was the same as Type 22 but with some optional extras), and the Type 26 Pick-up, which was available as either a single cab or twin cab variant.
Finally, there is the one we have here, which is the late model Bay window crew cab. Quite similar to the Type 22, but with the addition of a half bulkhead between the cab and the passenger area. There is a single driver’s seat, a twin passenger seat and a full width bench seat in the rear of the cab.
