Mark's review

Mark Livesey - Consignment Specialist Message Mark

“ A semi-complete project, that is well worth completing. ”

Background

Talbot-Lago introduced a sensational new 2.5-litre model at the 1955 Paris Salon - the T14 LS - an altogether superior sports car powered by a four-cylinder, twin-camshaft, overhead-valve engine.

In standard tune the latter developed 120bhp, which was transmitted via an all-synchromesh ZF gearbox.

The chassis frame was fabricated from large diameter tubes, featuring independent front suspension, while the styling borrowed much from the Record Grand Sport, the sleek 2+2 coachwork being a wonderful example of Gallic elegance.

The Talbot-Lago T14 LS was both exclusive and expensive; only 54 examples were built.

Overview

This RHD 1957 Talbot Lago T14 is a very rare and special vehicle.

Not least because we understand that this example comes with the 2.7-litre T15 engine, mated to a French ‘Pont à Mousson’ gearbox.

A good deal of work has already been done on this car’s journey towards restoration, with many of the issues relating to the bodywork and wooden structure having been addressed.

The car comes with a huge assortment of parts and components and looks to be very complete aside, primarily, from seating and upholstery.

This vehicle is currently in storage at CARS Europe BV. If you require a quote for shipping anywhere in the world, please contact them direct (details below).

The winning bidder will receive a receipt for the final hammer value, as their legal proof of purchase.

Unless otherwise stated, we have not tried to start or drive the car and cannot vouch for its mechanical viability or functionality. It will require recommissioning prior to road use and is sold ‘as seen’.

It must be collected within 7-days of the auction end. Storage charges (€70 + local VAT per car per week) will commence from the sixth day following the auction end.  These must be paid in full prior to the vehicle’s collection or onward transportation.

Collection and viewings are strictly by appointment only.

Please send an email to the storage centre to ensure vehicle(s) are ready at time of collection. Photographic ID will be required at time of collection. If a third party is collecting for you, then written authorisation is required in advance from you and photographic ID of the third party is required at the time of collection.

CARS Europe BV will contact you after the balance payment is received to confirm onward transport requirements. For enquiries about import tax and shipping contact Madam Joanna Herlihy, +31 (0) 252 682 526, +44 7483 433912, joanna@carsworldwide.com.

Exterior

The bodywork is evidently some way through the restoration process, with welding to be seen in paces and, in others, some minor corrosion still to address.

The wire wheels are decent and would certainly be amenable to full refurbishment.

The car comes with many boxes of parts and components, both mechanical and cosmetic, including glass, bumpers and exterior trim.

Interior

The interior is very clean and clearly shows that the restoration of the chassis and floor pans is advanced and has been done to a high standard.

While there is no upholstery in place, the door cards with their red leather inserts have been put in place and give an enticing sense of what the car could and should ultimately look like.

Everything looks fully prepared and ready for the next stages of the restoration.

Mechanical

The engine and engine bay are shiny, clean and dry.

The gearbox, clutch housing and driveshaft accompany the car separately, along with all sorts of other mechanical and electrical components.

History

In common with many of the cars from this collection, this example comes with very little paperwork or history.

It does, however, come with current V5C UK registration dating from 2014.

Summary

We think the exceptional rarity and stunning design of this car, together with the relative completeness of its parts inventory and the hard work that’s already been done, make this a very attractive and unusual restoration project.

We’re confident to offer this fine car for auction with an estimate of €55,000 - €65,000.

The car is currently in storage, you can see a picture of the collection as it stands today at the very bottom of the photo gallery.
