Background
Subaru is renowned for having a baffling array of special editions capitalising on their various successes in all manner of motorsport disciplines and the WRX RA STI V6 Limited is no exception to that confusion, but with a little research we can bring you the finer points this special edition had over other special editions.
Firstly, the RA part, standing for ‘Rally/Race altered’, means that this is the focused, sports model with weight saving measures as well as other special enhancements. WRX meant that the rally DNA that imbued the original Impreza rally cars was filtered down to the road cars and STI means you get all the racy parts from factory including that sweet sounding 280bhp, 2 litre, EJ20 boxer engine. Being an STI model also means you get other upgrades including the VF28 turbo, larger brakes, closer gear ratios and a host of suspension and driveline upgrades.
The RA special edition ran from the year 1993 to 2000 in its GC8 form. Within that production run, it had 6 versions with each revision having different model specs (like we said, confusing). Boiled down, this car is the last ‘Limited’ version of the GC8 model.
