Background

The Silver Spur was a longer-wheelbase version of the Silver Spirit, the first model in Rolls-Royce’s SZ series, and was in production from 1981 to 1999.

Along with the other models in the SZ series, the Silver Spur was one of the last Crewe-built Rolls-Royces with truly British DNA running through it. The next generations of the ‘The World’s Best Car’ would be built by BMW in a new facility at Goodwood, England.

It featured Rolls-Royce’s familiar four-door monocoque bodyshell, a smooth and powerful 6750cc V8 engine allied to four-speed automatic transmission, all-round independent suspension, adaptive ride control, power steering and four-wheel disc brakes with ABS.

It was the first Rolls-Royce to feature a retractable Spirit of Ecstasy mascot.

The Mark IV Silver Spur was manufactured between 1996 and 2000.

This LHD auto Rolls-Royce Silver Spur by Mulliner Park Ward is showing 44,058 kms on its odometer.

VIN: SCAZN20C7VCX60132

The car comes with no history or service records beyond whatever documentation is shown in the gallery, which includes the original spec sheets.

We believe it was supplied new to Japan before making its way to the vendor’s collection in 2013.

In our opinion, this car’s condition is very good even for its low mileage, let alone its age and, like many cars with Japanese provenance, it appears to have been very well looked after throughout the course of its life on salt-free roads.

Exterior

This car’s ‘Silver Pearl’ paintwork has plenty of shine and presents very well from every angle.

The bodywork is free of any dents, warps, holes, ripples or creases of significance and the panel gaps and shut lines seem consistent and even.

The wheels, chrome, lights, badging and exterior trim are in very reasonable overall condition.

There are a few light scuffs on the rear wheel arch on the passenger side and some paint has rubbed off the rear edge of the driver’s door.

There’s also a paint chip on the passenger side ‘C’ pillar and another above the Rolls-Royce badge on the boot.

Interior

The luxurious interior of the car is, if anything, even more impressive than the exterior.

It is certainly highly original and authentic, as far as we can see, and it has survived the passage of time admirably.

The ‘Soft Tan’ leather upholstery is in fine condition, front and back, and all the seats are comfortable and supportive. The bolster on the driver’s seat has some light creasing but no other signs of use or wear.

The ‘Sahara’ Wilton carpets are very good, as are the ‘Sahara’ lambswool over-rugs.

The wood veneers look to be very good throughout and are rich and glossy.

The boot is also in first-class condition.

We can’t vouch for the full functionality of instruments, dials, buttons, knobs, switches or levers because we haven’t driven the car.

Mechanical

Everything in the engine bay seems to be in its right and proper place.

The undersides of the car appear to have a decent amount of structural integrity.

History

This car doesn’t come with any history or service records beyond what is shown in the photography section.

It must be registered in the country of your choice and you will need to contact the appropriate vehicle licensing agency for instructions on how to do this.

None of the paperwork shown in the gallery in any way constitutes any kind of licensing or registration certification.

Summary

From what we can see, this excellent Rolls-Royce Silver Spur has been well looked-after throughout its life and is in particularly good, time-warp condition.

We really can’t imagine that there are many better examples of the model out there - provided, of course, that the engine, electrics and mechanicals are amenable to recommissioning.

We’re confident to offer this splendid car for auction with an estimate of €5,000 - €8,000.
