Background

The Silver Spur was a longer-wheelbase version of the Silver Spirit, the first model in Rolls-Royce’s SZ series, and was in production from 1981 to 1999.

Along with the other models in the SZ series, the Silver Spur was one of the last Crewe-built Rolls-Royces with truly British DNA running through it. The next generations of the ‘The World’s Best Car’ would be built by BMW in a new facility at Goodwood, England.

It featured Rolls-Royce’s familiar four-door monocoque bodyshell, a smooth and powerful 6750cc V8 engine allied to four-speed automatic transmission, all-round independent suspension, adaptive ride control, power steering and four-wheel disc brakes with ABS.

It was the first Rolls-Royce to feature a retractable Spirit of Ecstasy mascot.

The Mark IV Silver Spur was manufactured between 1996 and 2000.

Overview

This LHD auto Rolls-Royce Silver Spur is showing 16,927 miles on its odometer.

The VIN is SCAZN19C8VCX59505.

The car comes with no history or service records beyond whatever documentation is shown in the gallery.

We believe it was supplied new to the USA before making its way to Switzerland at some point.

It has been in storage for a while and will need a basic service to prepare it for the road.

In our opinion, this car’s condition is exceptional even for its very low mileage, let alone its age.

Exterior

The bodywork is free of any dents, dinks or creases of significance and the dark red paintwork is rich and glossy wherever you look.

Even the usual stone chips in the expected places - front valance, wheel arches, etc, - are in very short supply.

The shut lines and panel gaps appear entirely consistent and even.

The chrome is in fine condition, as are the lights, lenses, badging and exterior fixtures and fittings.

The wheels and hub caps are in excellent condition, as is the exterior trim.

In short, this car looks virtually as good as new from every angle and presents very handsomely indeed.

Interior

The interior is every bit as impressive as the exterior.

The cream leather upholstery with red piping is in excellent order and shows few if any signs of wear or age, either front or rear.

The red carpets are in very fine condition. The lambswool over-rugs, which are nearly thick enough to keep your ankles warm, are in the boot and are equally well-preserved.

The wood veneers on the dashboard, door cappings, inserts and rear picnic tables are glossy and rich.

Some of the veneers on the centre console could do with a clean and polish.

The door cards are very good, as is the headlining and all interior trim, fixtures and fittings.

The bottom of the door card at the rear on the passenger side has some marks that look as if they should succumb to some appropriate cleaning products.

The steering wheel, gear lever, dashboard, dials, instruments, switches and interior trim have all survived the passage of time remarkably well and are largely without any flaws that we can discern.

The boot looks as if it has been barely used.

Mechanical

All components and parts in the very clean and dry engine bay seem to be in their right and proper place.

The car’s undersides look like those you would expect to find on a car that has covered fewer than 17,000 miles and spent most of its life kept warm and dry inside.

History

The car doesn’t come with any service records, history or documentation beyond what is shown in the gallery section.

Summary

We think this 1997 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur is in time-warp condition and must surely be one of the most impressive, low mileage examples you could hope to find anywhere.

We’re confident to offer this magnificent vehicle for auction with an estimate of between €25,000 - €35,000.
