“ No Reserve - Needs Recommissioning ”

We think this is a good example of a hand-built Rolls-Royce Silver Spur II limousine.

It is in the typically good condition we’ve come to associate with Rolls-Royce limousines of Japanese provenance.

We think it should have years of classy service ahead of it - provided, of course, that the engine, electrics and mechanicals are amenable to recommissioning and as good as the rest of it.

We’re confident to offer this car for auction with an estimate of €15,000 - €25,000.

Viewing is always encouraged, and this particular car is located in a bonded warehouse near Amsterdam. To arrange an appointment please use the Contact Seller button at the top of the listing. Feel free to ask any questions or make observations in the comments section below, or try our ‘Frequently Asked Questions’.

Background

The Silver Spur was a longer-wheelbase version of the Silver Spirit, the first model in Rolls-Royce’s SZ series, and was in production from 1981 to 1999.

Along with the other models in the SZ series, the Silver Spur was one of the last Crewe-built Rolls-Royces with truly British DNA running through it. The next generations of the ‘The World’s Best Car’ would be built by BMW in a new facility at Goodwood, England.

It featured Rolls-Royce’s familiar four-door monocoque bodyshell, a smooth and powerful 6750cc V8 engine allied to four-speed automatic transmission, all-round independent suspension, adaptive ride control, power steering and four-wheel disc brakes with ABS.

It was the first Rolls-Royce to feature a retractable Spirit of Ecstasy mascot.

Overview

This car is offered from outside of the European Union. It has been imported under temporary admission customs bond and is therefore subject to Dutch import tax (9%) on top of the winning bid price. Cars less than 30 years old will pay 10% Dutch import tax plus 21% VAT on the hammer. If exporting immediately to another country, then tax/duty will only be paid in that country.

The winning bidder will pay €500 customs charge on top of the ‘hammer’ price.

The winning bidder will receive a receipt for the final hammer value, as their proof of purchase.

This vehicle has been on static display in the Middle East for a number of years and the only history or paperwork available is displayed in the photo gallery. In all cases the papers shown are photocopies unless otherwise stated. We do not have the original paperwork.

Unless otherwise stated, we have not tried to start or drive the car and cannot vouch for its mechanical viability or functionality. The car is not registered anywhere.

It will require recommissioning prior to road use and is sold ‘as seen’.

As CARS Europe BV is the guarantor of all customs duties and taxes for vehicles within Dutch customs bond, the car cannot be released until full payment received.

All storage charges (€30 + local VAT per day commencing from the sixth day following the auction end) must be paid in full prior to the vehicle’s collection or onward transportation. Collection and viewings are strictly by appointment only.

Please send an email to the storage centre to ensure vehicle(s) are ready at time of collection. Photographic ID will be required at time of collection. If a third party is collecting for you, then written authorisation is required in advance from you and photographic ID of the third party is required at the time of collection.

CARS Europe BV will contact you after the balance payment is received to confirm onward transport requirements. For enquiries about import tax and shipping contact Madam Joanna Herlihy, +31 (0) 252 682 526, +44 7483 433912, joanna@carseurope.net.

In common with many vehicles from the vendor’s collection, this 1993 LHD auto Rolls-Royce Silver Spur II comes with no history or service records.

Like many of the Roll-Royce limousines in the vendor’s collection, this car hails from Japan.

That’s good news, because Japanese roads are salt-free and Japanese owners are particularly fastidious in the care and upkeep of their prized automotive possessions.

We believe that the car entered the vendor’s collection of static display vehicles in 2012.

Today, this magnificent Mulliner Park Ward coach-built car has covered 119,693 kms.

The car takes power and the engine spins freely but it doesn’t currently start.

Therefore, our appraisal of it is entirely based on its cosmetic appearance.

Exterior

The coach-built bodywork on this Silver Spur II is free of any significant dents, dinks or creases.

It is currently boasting a huge telecoms antenna on the boot lid and what we imagine is a flag pole protruding upwards from the front bumper.

The white paintwork is mostly good.

There is a little bubbling just below the rear window on the passenger side.

There are one or two paint chips around the front grille and a scratch on the front passenger-side door.

Some paint chips are in evidence on the edge of the rear door on the driver’s side and there’s some streaking and discolouration on the rear doors on both sides.

One of the windscreen wiper arms is missing – don’t worry, it’s inside the car.

The wheels, chrome work, lights, lenses and badging are all decent.

Interior

The cream leather upholstery is in very good condition on both sides of the glass dividing screen, although it could do with being introduced to some leather cleaning and feeding products.

There’s a bit of entirely age-and-kilometres-appropriate creasing to the bolster on the driver’s seat.

The door cards are very decent, too, and the wood veneers and lacquers are in surprisingly strong condition throughout, both front and back.

The car is equipped with all the luxuries that would have been available to the ultra-wealthy consumer in 1993: two phones, a fridge, a sunroof, a TV and entertainment console in the rear, a drinks cabinet, privacy glass, and an even an air purifier on the parcel shelf.

The headlining is good. The carpets in the front are also good, but rather less so under the rugs in the rear cabin, where some moths have decided to tuck in.

There’s a small flap of leather lifting up under the glove compartment.

The Asprey clock is missing from above the dividing screen.

The carpets in the boot are totally moth-eaten.

We can’t make any claims about the full functionality of switches, knobs, levers, toggles, buttons, dials or other electrics as we haven’t started or driven the car.

Mechanical

The tidy, dry engine and engine bay look very clean and everything appears to be in its right and proper place.

The undersides of the car seem to have plenty of structural integrity from what we can see.

History

Unless otherwise stated, this car comes with no paperwork beyond whatever photocopied records are shown in the gallery.

No documents shown in the gallery in any way constitute any kind of licensing or registration certification.

It must be registered in the country of your choice and you will need to contact the appropriate vehicle licensing agency for instructions on how to do this.
