“ Very Rare - Recommission Required ”

This very rare, hand-built limousine is clearly in need of some work to get it back to its best, but its underlying quality and scarcity may well make the task worthwhile - provided, of course, that the engine, electrics and mechanicals are amenable to recommissioning.

We’re confident to offer this car for auction with an estimate of €5,000 - €10,000.

Viewing is always encouraged, and this particular car is located in a bonded warehouse near Amsterdam. To arrange an appointment please use the Contact Seller button at the top of the listing. Feel free to ask any questions or make observations in the comments section below, or try our ‘Frequently Asked Questions’.

Background

Introduced in 1965 as a replacement for the much-loved but ageing Silver Cloud III, the Silver Shadow was a true ‘milestone’ car in the long and illustrious history of Rolls-Royce.

Representing the first unibody-constructed production car in their range, the Silver Shadow also saw independent rear suspension and disc brakes used on all four corners for the first time, giving customers enormous confidence in the safety of their vehicles.

Initially unveiled with a 6.2-litre V8 engine, post-1970 cars featured an enlarged 6.75-litre V8 engine with an increased output of 189bhp.

Overview

This car is offered from outside of the European Union. It has been imported under temporary admission customs bond and is therefore subject to Dutch import tax (9%) on top of the winning bid price. Cars less than 30 years old will pay 10% Dutch import tax plus 21% VAT on the hammer. If exporting immediately to another country, then tax/duty will only be paid in that country.

The winning bidder will pay €500 customs charge on top of the ‘hammer’ price.

The winning bidder will receive a receipt for the final hammer value, as their proof of purchase.

This vehicle has been on static display in the Middle East for a number of years and the only history or paperwork available is displayed in the photo gallery. In all cases the papers shown are photocopies unless otherwise stated. We do not have the original paperwork.

Unless otherwise stated, we have not tried to start or drive the car and cannot vouch for its mechanical viability or functionality. The car is not registered anywhere.

It will require recommissioning prior to road use and is sold ‘as seen’.

As CARS Europe BV is the guarantor of all customs duties and taxes for vehicles within Dutch customs bond, the car cannot be released until full payment received.

All storage charges (€30 + local VAT per day commencing from the sixth day following the auction end) must be paid in full prior to the vehicle’s collection or onward transportation. Collection and viewings are strictly by appointment only.

Please send an email to the storage centre to ensure vehicle(s) are ready at time of collection. Photographic ID will be required at time of collection. If a third party is collecting for you, then written authorisation is required in advance from you and photographic ID of the third party is required at the time of collection.

CARS Europe BV will contact you after the balance payment is received to confirm onward transport requirements. For enquiries about import tax and shipping contact Madam Joanna Herlihy, +31 (0) 252 682 526, +44 7483 433912, joanna@carseurope.net.

VIN: SRX6397.

This extremely rare stretched limousine was created from a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow by Concept Coach Builders of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

In common with many vehicles from the vendor’s collection, this LHD auto Rolls-Royce comes with no history or service records beyond whatever photocopies are shown in the documents section.

The car doesn’t currently start or run.

The odometer reads 59,216 miles.

As we haven’t started or driven the car, our appraisal of it is entirely based on its cosmetic appearance.

We believe it entered the vendor’s collection of static display vehicles in 2012.

A couple of stickers on the car’s windscreen suggest that the car was living in Pennsylvania in 2010.

Exterior

The wheels, lights, chrome work and badging are reasonable.

The bodywork has a few issues here and there and there’s evidence of corrosion in various places.

There is dent on the passenger-side rear door and at the base of the centre section on the same side.

There is bubbling and some holes at the base of the rear wing on the driver’s side.

The rear tyre on the same side is shredded.

The vinyl roof has a split in it at the rear and appears to be covering up a significant amount of bubbling beneath. The roof is heavily stained on one side.

The panels, panel gaps and shut lines are fairly consistent and even, although the driver’s door is currently refusing to open and the bonnet is reluctant to do so.

There is bubbling in the ‘A’ pillars, sills and wheel arches.

There are also outbreaks of bubbling, scuffs and cracks in the paint at the base of the front and rear wings on the passenger side, and bubbling beneath the windows all along the passenger side.

One of the windscreen wipers is broken.

Interior

It’s a similar story on the inside, where there’s good and bad news in more or less equal measure and the overall look is rather grubby and dirty.

The red leather upholstery is faded, worn and dirty. More importantly, it is covered in a myriad small nicks, tears and scratches.

The front seats are dry and the leather is cracked in a few places. The driver’s door armrest is cracked and worn.

The wood veneers in the front have survived quite well.

The fabric trim is coming away from the ‘A’ pillars.

Moths have been at work in the carpets, headlining and at the base of the door cards.

Everything looks rather tired and shabby behind the central glass dividing screen.

Something seems to have been spilled down the door cards in the rear, and rust can be seen on top of the sills when the doors are open.

The rear cabin has bench seats facing each other and the usual millionaire’s luxury accoutrements – ice bucket, places to rest a glass of Dom Perignon, TV and entertainment console, and all manner of electronic gadgetry of a certain vintage.

The leather upholstery in the rear is also sporting the same variety of small nicks and tears as its counterpart in the front.

We can’t make any claims about the functionality of switches, knobs, levers, toggles, buttons, dials or other electrics as we haven’t started or driven the car.

Mechanical

The engine and engine bay look decidedly dusty but everything appears to be in its right and proper place.

The undersides of the car have evidence of corrosion in the sills and various other places.

You will want to take a look yourself and judge the extent to which this does or doesn’t affect the structural integrity of the vehicle.

History

Unless otherwise stated, this car comes with no paperwork beyond whatever photocopied records are shown in the gallery.

No documents shown in the gallery in any way constitute any kind of licensing or registration certification.

It must be registered in the country of your choice and you will need to contact the appropriate vehicle licensing agency for instructions on how to do this.
