Mark's review

Mark Livesey - Consignment Specialist Message Mark

“ This does start and run however, it has stood for a long time and should be thoroughly recommissioned. ”

Believed built to a Bahrain specification and delivered new to the Middle-East.

Background

Whenever a new Rolls-Royce appears, it is the manner in which tradition is balanced against innovation that most intrigues the public, and the Silver Seraph's introduction in 1998 was no exception.

There was certainly no lack of new components in the new car, with almost nothing carried over from its Silver Spur predecessor.

The most significant change was the adoption of BMW engines, the Seraph's power unit being the 5.3-litre, 60-degree V12 of the range-topping 750i.

The Silver Seraph became the first V12 Rolls-Royce since the pre-war Phantom III.

The ZF five-speed automatic gearbox was likewise sourced from the 750i.

Changes to the body seemed less radical but were no less interesting. The styling represented a conscious attempt to recall the looks of the Silver Cloud, with a level of build quality that was higher than ever.

Just 1,676 hand-assembled cars were made during the Seraph’s short four-year production run from 1998 to 2002.

Overview

VIN: SCALA60E2XCX02300.

The car comes with no history or records.

None of the paperwork shown represents any kind of licencing or registration documentation.

The car starts and runs but we haven’t driven it more than a few metres so, consequently, our assessment of the car is made purely on the grounds of its appearance – which is really very good indeed, outside, inside and underneath.

This LHD auto Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph has just 27,708 kms on the odometer and its condition is far more a reflection of that low number than its age.

We believe the car was built to a Bahrain specification and delivered new to the Middle-East.

We further believe that it entered the vendor’s collection of static display vehicles in 2021.

This car is offered from outside of the European Union. It has been imported under temporary admission customs bond and is therefore subject to Dutch import tax (9%) on top of the winning bid price. Cars less than 30 years old will pay 10% Dutch import tax plus 21% VAT on the hammer. If exporting immediately to another country, then tax/duty will only be paid in that country.

The winning bidder will pay €500 customs charge on top of the ‘hammer’ price.

The winning bidder will receive a receipt for the final hammer value, as their proof of purchase.

This vehicle has been on static display in the Middle East for a number of years and the only history or paperwork available is displayed in the photo gallery.  In all cases the papers shown are photocopies unless otherwise stated. We do not have the original paperwork.

Unless otherwise stated, we have not tried to start or drive the car and cannot vouch for its mechanical viability or functionality. The car is not registered anywhere.

It will require recommissioning prior to road use and is sold ‘as seen’.

As CARS Europe BV is the guarantor of all customs duties and taxes for vehicles within Dutch customs bond, the car cannot be released until full payment received.

All storage charges (€30 + local VAT per day commencing from the sixth day following the auction end) must be paid in full prior to the vehicle’s collection or onward transportation. Collection and viewings are strictly by appointment only.

Please send an email to the storage centre to ensure vehicle(s) are ready at time of collection. Photographic ID will be required at time of collection. If a third party is collecting for you, then written authorisation is required in advance from you and photographic ID of the third party is required at the time of collection.

CARS Europe BV will contact you after the balance payment is received to confirm onward transport requirements. For enquiries about import tax and shipping contact Madam Joanna Herlihy, +31 (0) 252 682 526, +44 7483 433912, joanna@carseurope.net.

Exterior

The car’s bodywork is very hard to fault and there are no dents, dinks, creases or folds anywhere that we can see.

The panels, panel gaps and shut lines are all testimony to the quality and care with which these cars were constructed.

The chrome work is beyond reproach, as are the wheels.

The car’s ‘Wildberry’ metallic paint has retained plenty of lustre and vibrancy, and the metallic flake really dazzles in the sunshine.

A little bit of paint has rubbed off on the edges of the doors and the filler cap, but it’s barely noticeable.

There is a tiny scuff and a scratch on the passenger-side rear wing, and short scratches on the front door and the front wing on the same side.

Finally, we spotted another faint scratch on the driver’s side of the bonnet.

Apart from these very minor blemishes, it looks pretty much showroom fresh.

Interior

It’s the same story of excellent condition on the inside.

The seats, front and back, barely have any creases to show for their age, let alone any meaningful patina.

Aside from what looks like a very faint biro mark on the passenger seat (which could no doubt be persuaded to disappear), the upholstery is very good indeed.

So, too, are the carpets, mats and lambswool over-rugs.

The headlining and door cards are free of any damage or signs of use, as are the car’s burr oak veneers and boxwood inlays.

The only minor exceptions to all this good news are a tiny bit of worn leather at one corner of the storage unit between the front seats, and some wear and tear to a corner of the wood veneer on the centre console cup holder.

The boot is in fine condition.

We can’t make any claims about the full functionality of switches, knobs, levers, toggles, buttons, dials, or other electrics as we haven’t driven the car any distance.

Mechanical

Everything in the engine bay seems to be straight, present and correct.

The car’s undersides look clean and tidy and seem to have a good deal of structural integrity as far as we can see.

History

Unless otherwise stated, this car comes with no history or service records beyond whatever photocopied documents are shown in the gallery.

No documents shown in the gallery in any way constitute any kind of licensing or registration certification.

It must be registered in the country of your choice and you will need to contact the appropriate vehicle licensing agency for instructions on how to do this.

Summary

Provided, of course, that the engine, electrics and mechanicals are amenable to recommissioning and as good as the rest of it - which is very good indeed - we think this is an excellent, low-kilometres example of both the marque and the model.
