PLEASE NOTE THAT AN AUCTION PREMIUM WILL BE CHARGED, ON TOP OF THE HAMMER PRICE, OF 5% (+VAT IN UK AND EUROPE). FROM 16TH JAN'23 THIS APPLIES TO ALL AUCTIONS ON THE MARKET, AND FEES ARE MIN €720 / MAX €7,200.

Whenever a new Rolls-Royce appears, it is the manner in which tradition is balanced against innovation that most intrigues the public, and the Silver Seraph's introduction in 1998 was no exception.

There was certainly no lack of new components in the new car, with almost nothing carried over from its Silver Spur predecessor.

The most significant change was the adoption of BMW engines, the Seraph's power unit being the 5.3-litre, 60-degree V12 of the range-topping 750i.

The Silver Seraph became the first V12 Rolls-Royce since the pre-war Phantom III.

The ZF five-speed automatic gearbox was likewise sourced from the 750i.

Changes to the body seemed less radical but were no less interesting. The styling represented a conscious attempt to recall the looks of the Silver Cloud, with a level of build quality that was higher than ever.

Just 1,676 hand-assembled cars were made during the Seraph’s short four-year production run from 1998 to 2002.

Overview

This car is offered from outside of the European Union. It has been imported under temporary admission customs bond and is therefore subject to Dutch import tax (9%) on top of the winning bid price. Cars less than 30 years old will pay 10% Dutch import tax plus 21% VAT on the hammer. If exporting immediately to another country, then tax/duty will only be paid in that country.

The winning bidder will pay €500 customs charge on top of the ‘hammer’ price.

The winning bidder will receive a receipt for the final hammer value, as their proof of purchase.

This vehicle has been on static display in the Middle East for a number of years and the only history or paperwork available is displayed in the photo gallery. In all cases the papers shown are photocopies unless otherwise stated. We do not have the original paperwork.

Unless otherwise stated, we have not tried to start or drive the car and cannot vouch for its mechanical viability or functionality. The car is not registered anywhere.

It will require recommissioning prior to road use and is sold ‘as seen’.

As CARS Europe BV is the guarantor of all customs duties and taxes for vehicles within Dutch customs bond, the car cannot be released until full payment received.

All storage charges (€30 + local VAT per day commencing from the sixth day following the auction end) must be paid in full prior to the vehicle’s collection or onward transportation. Collection and viewings are strictly by appointment only.

Please send an email to the storage centre to ensure vehicle(s) are ready at time of collection. Photographic ID will be required at time of collection. If a third party is collecting for you, then written authorisation is required in advance from you and photographic ID of the third party is required at the time of collection.

CARS Europe BV will contact you after the balance payment is received to confirm onward transport requirements. For enquiries about import tax and shipping contact Madam Joanna Herlihy, +31 (0) 252 682 526, +44 7483 433912, joanna@carseurope.net.

VIN: SCALA60E6XCX02154

In common with many vehicles from the vendor’s collection, this 1999 LHD auto Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph comes with no history or service records beyond whatever is shown in the documents section.

It has 41,012 kms on its odometer.

We believe it was exported new to the Middle East and bought for the vendor’s collection of static display vehicles in 2013.

The car doesn’t start or run at present (but it does take power to the dashboard), so our appraisal of it is entirely based on its cosmetic appearance.

Exterior

This hand-built Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph presents very well from every angle and is in excellent condition for its mileage, let alone its age.

The bodywork is excellent and the copper/gold coloured paintwork is broadly very good.

The chrome work is also impressive, although there is a little discolouration and tarnishing on top of the grille. This may well yield if threatened with the appropriate chrome treatment. We don’t know.

There are a few scuffs and scratches on the passenger-side front wing, a paint chip on the edge of the driver’s door, and some sticky residue left by tape or badging that once resided on the driver’s side wing.

The wheels are in fine order.

There are some scuffs on the rear bumper, on the boot lid, and on the rear, driver’s-side wing.

The boot lid won’t stay open.

Interior

The general impression of the interior is impressive, although closer inspection reveals one of two things you might want to look at if you’re so inclined.

The upholstery (front and back), door cards and headlining are all very good.

The carpets are OK and the lambswool rugs, although a bit grubby and faded, are intact (two of them are currently in the boot).

The lacquer on the wood veneers is cracked in places on the dashboard and picnic tables, and there are some scuffs on the wood on the centre console.

The leather on the front centre armrest is a little discoloured and has one small hole.

The leather around the steering wheel is a slightly frayed in a couple of places.

The leather on top of the dashboard has a scuff where it meets the driver’s door and is lifting up from the instrument cluster beneath it.

Some rubber sections of the driver’s mat and footrest have disintegrated.

A panel inside the rear centre armrest has sprung loose and sticks out when the armrest is pulled down.

We can’t make any claims about the functionality of switches, knobs, levers, toggles, buttons, dials or other electrics as we haven’t started or driven the car.

Mechanical

The clean, dry engine and engine bay look fine and the undersides of the car appear to have plenty of structural integrity.

History

This car comes with no history or service records.

It must be registered in the country of your choice and you will need to contact the appropriate vehicle licensing agency for instructions on how to do this.

No documents shown in the gallery in any way constitute any kind of licensing or registration certification unless otherwise stated.

Summary

Despite needing a little cosmetic attention here and there, we believe this fine Seraph to be in broadly very good condition - provided, of course, that the engine, electrics and mechanicals are amenable to recommissioning.

We’re confident to offer this car for auction with an estimate of €25,000-€35,000.
