“ Low mileage, but requires recommission ”

It has lived most of its life in Japan, which is almost always a good thing in the context of car condition.

Background

Whenever a new Rolls-Royce appears, it is the manner in which tradition is balanced against innovation that most intrigues the public, and the Silver Seraph's introduction in 1998 was no exception.

There was certainly no lack of new components in the new car, with almost nothing carried over from its Silver Spur predecessor.

The most significant change was the adoption of BMW engines, the Seraph's power unit being the 5.3-litre, 60-degree V12 of the range-topping 750i.

The Silver Seraph became the first V12 Rolls-Royce since the pre-war Phantom III.

The ZF five-speed automatic gearbox was likewise sourced from the 750i.

Changes to the body seemed less radical but were no less interesting. The styling represented a conscious attempt to recall the looks of the Silver Cloud, with a level of build quality that was higher than ever.

Just 1,676 hand-assembled cars were made during the Seraph’s short four-year production run from 1998 to 2002.

An extended wheelbase Park Ward version of the Silver Seraph was introduced at the 2000 Geneva Motor Show.

Only 127 of these EWB Park Ward Silver Seraphs, such as the one we have here, were ever made.

This, then, is a very rare car.

Overview

This car is offered from outside of the European Union. It has been imported under temporary admission customs bond and is therefore subject to Dutch import tax (9%) on top of the winning bid price. Cars less than 30 years old will pay 10% Dutch import tax plus 21% VAT on the hammer. If exporting immediately to another country, then tax/duty will only be paid in that country.

The winning bidder will pay €500 customs charge on top of the ‘hammer’ price.

The winning bidder will receive a receipt for the final hammer value, as their proof of purchase.

This vehicle has been on static display in the Middle East for a number of years and the only history or paperwork available is displayed in the photo gallery. In all cases the papers shown are photocopies unless otherwise stated. We do not have the original paperwork.

Unless otherwise stated, we have not tried to start or drive the car and cannot vouch for its mechanical viability or functionality. The car is not registered anywhere.

It will require recommissioning prior to road use and is sold ‘as seen’.

As CARS Europe BV is the guarantor of all customs duties and taxes for vehicles within Dutch customs bond, the car cannot be released until full payment received.

All storage charges (€30 + local VAT per day commencing from the sixth day following the auction end) must be paid in full prior to the vehicle’s collection or onward transportation. Collection and viewings are strictly by appointment only.

Please send an email to the storage centre to ensure vehicle(s) are ready at time of collection. Photographic ID will be required at time of collection. If a third party is collecting for you, then written authorisation is required in advance from you and photographic ID of the third party is required at the time of collection.

CARS Europe BV will contact you after the balance payment is received to confirm onward transport requirements. For enquiries about import tax and shipping contact Madam Joanna Herlihy, +31 (0) 252 682 526, +44 7483 433912, joanna@carseurope.net.

VIN: SCALD61EXYCX07509.

This LHD auto Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph Park Ward was exported new to Japan and was bought for the vendor’s collection of static display cars in, we think, 2012.

Today, the odometer reads 45,836 kms.

The car is dark blue with cream leather upholstery and blue carpets.

The car comes with no history or records.

None of the paperwork shown represents any kind of licencing or registration documentation.

We haven’t started or driven the car so, consequently, our assessment of the car is made purely on the grounds of its appearance.

As is often the case with cars that have spent most of their working lives in Japan, the vehicle is in very good overall condition and would appear to have been fastidiously maintained and curated.

Exterior

The car’s bodywork is excellent and the panels, panel gaps and shut lines are all testimony to the quality and care with which these cars were constructed.

There is one small, shallow dent on the passenger-side rear door.

The front passenger door has a barely discernible streak of discolouration and there is a small stone chip on the leading edge of the bonnet.

Elsewhere, even standard scratches, stone chips and scratches are more notable for their absence than their presence.

The chrome, wheels, lights, lenses and other exterior fixtures and fittings are all fine.

A windscreen wiper blade has separated from its housing.

Interior

Aside from some very light creasing on the driver’s seat, the interior looks really very good indeed.

The cream leather upholstery (piped blue) is in fine condition, both front and back.

All the wood veneer inserts are glossy, rich and undamaged.

So, too, are the door cards, carpets, mats, headlining – although the rubber on the driver’s floor mat is worn.

There is a mark on the front centre armrest. It should yield promptly if threatened with a cloth and some soapy water.

The wooden fascia that forms the front face of the centre armrest has detached and will need to be re-affixed.

The boot looks as good as the rest of it.

We can’t make any claims about the functionality of switches, knobs, levers, toggles, buttons, dials, or other electrics as we haven’t started or driven the car.

Mechanical

Everything in the engine bay seems to be straight, present and correct.

The car’s undersides look clean and tidy and seem to have a good deal of structural integrity as far as we can see.

History

Unless otherwise stated, this car comes with no history or service records beyond whatever photocopied documents are shown in the gallery.

No documents shown in the gallery in any way constitute any kind of licensing or registration certification.

It must be registered in the country of your choice and you will need to contact the appropriate vehicle licensing agency for instructions on how to do this.

Summary

It has lived most of its life in Japan, which is almost always a good thing in the context of car condition.

It has just 45,836 kilometres on the odometer.

We think it is in excellent overall order - provided, of course, that the engine, electrics and mechanicals are amenable to recommissioning and as good as the rest of it.
