PLEASE NOTE THAT AN AUCTION PREMIUM WILL BE CHARGED, ON TOP OF THE HAMMER PRICE, OF 5% (+VAT IN UK AND EUROPE). FROM 16TH JAN'23 THIS APPLIES TO ALL AUCTIONS ON THE MARKET, AND FEES ARE MIN €720 / MAX €7,200.

The Silver Spirit was the first model in Rolls-Royce’s SZ series and was produced at the Crewe factory from 1980 to 1997. The Silver Spur was a longer-wheelbase version of the Silver Spirit and was in production from 1980 to 2000.

The Silver Dawn was produced as a special edition of the Silver Spur III and came with various additional bells and whistles including traction control and heated rear seats.

The Silver Dawn was one of the last Crewe-built Rolls-Royces with truly British DNA running through it. The next generations of the ‘The World’s Best Car’ would be built by BMW in a new facility at Goodwood.

The Silver Dawn was available to US customers a year in advance of potential buyers elsewhere in the world. Just 237 are thought to have been made, with only 150 in LHD guise.

It featured Rolls-Royce’s familiar four-door monocoque bodyshell, a smooth and powerful 6750cc V8 engine allied to four-speed automatic transmission, all-round independent suspension, adaptive ride control, power steering and four-wheel disc brakes with ABS.

With a new Silver Dawn costing around £105,000 at the time, customer expectations were always high.

As ever with Rolls-Royces of the era, the car could be ordered with practically limitless combinations of bespoke options.

Whatever you ordered, you were assured the finest materials and the highest standards of craftsmanship.

Overview

This car is offered from outside of the European Union. It has been imported under temporary admission customs bond and is therefore subject to Dutch import tax (9%) on top of the winning bid price. Cars less than 30 years old will pay 10% Dutch import tax plus 21% VAT on the hammer. If exporting immediately to another country, then tax/duty will only be paid in that country.

The winning bidder will pay €500 customs charge on top of the ‘hammer’ price.

The winning bidder will receive a receipt for the final hammer value, as their proof of purchase.

This vehicle has been on static display in the Middle East for a number of years and the only history or paperwork available is displayed in the photo gallery. In all cases the papers shown are photocopies unless otherwise stated. We do not have the original paperwork.

Unless otherwise stated, we have not tried to start or drive the car and cannot vouch for its mechanical viability or functionality. The car is not registered anywhere.

It will require recommissioning prior to road use and is sold ‘as seen’.

As CARS Europe BV is the guarantor of all customs duties and taxes for vehicles within Dutch customs bond, the car cannot be released until full payment received.

All storage charges (€30 + local VAT per day commencing from the sixth day following the auction end) must be paid in full prior to the vehicle’s collection or onward transportation. Collection and viewings are strictly by appointment only.

Please send an email to the storage centre to ensure vehicle(s) are ready at time of collection. Photographic ID will be required at time of collection. If a third party is collecting for you, then written authorisation is required in advance from you and photographic ID of the third party is required at the time of collection.

CARS Europe BV will contact you after the balance payment is received to confirm onward transport requirements. For enquiries about import tax and shipping contact Madam Joanna Herlihy, +31 (0) 252 682 526, +44 7483 433912, joanna@carseurope.net.

In common with many vehicles from the vendor’s collection, this 1997 LHD auto Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn comes with no history or service records beyond whatever is shown in the documents section.

It has 19,804 kms on its odometer.

We believe it was exported new to Japan and bought for the vendor’s collection of static display vehicles in 2013.

The car doesn’t start or run at present (but it does take power to the dashboard), so our appraisal of it is entirely based on its cosmetic appearance.

As with so many prestige cars that have lived their lives from new in Japan, its condition, inside and out, is quite exceptional.

Exterior

The car’s overall condition is so good that it will be easier and quicker if we simply highlight the couple of flaws we’ve spotted.

Firstly, the passenger door doesn’t quite hang properly and will need adjusting.

Secondly, there are a couple of paint chips on the leading edge of the driver’s door.

Aside from that, this car is really very good indeed and is in time-warp condition.

The bodywork is untroubled by dinks or dents.

The paintwork is shiny and bright and has little more than the odd stone chip here and there to show for its 26 years of life.

The chrome work and wheels are good, as are the badging, trim and exterior fixtures and fittings.

Interior

It’s a similar story of exemplary condition and preservation on the inside.

The brown leather upholstery is more or less immaculate, front and back.

The headlining is fine, as are the carpets.

The car’s lambswool rugs are in protective plastic bags.

The car’s kick-plates have blue plastic coverings to keep them from getting scuffed.

The wood veneers are excellent all-round.

Aside from a couple of grubby marks on the glove compartment (which could be seen off with a damp cloth in about 5 seconds), this car truly belies its age and could fool most people into believing that it had recently left a Rolls-Royce showroom.

The boot is similarly impressive.

We can’t make any claims about the functionality of switches, knobs, levers, toggles, buttons, dials or other electrics as we haven’t started or driven the car.

Mechanical

The clean, dry engine and engine bay look fine and the undersides of the car appear to have plenty of structural integrity.

History

This car comes with no history or service records.

It must be registered in the country of your choice and you will need to contact the appropriate vehicle licensing agency for instructions on how to do this.

No documents shown in the gallery in any way constitute any kind of licensing or registration certification unless otherwise stated.

Summary

Whoever was responsible for looking after this car in Japan should be given a pat on the back or, possibly, a medal.

He or she would appear to have done a fabulous job - assuming, of course, that the engine, electrics and mechanicals prove to be amenable to recommissioning and as good as the rest of it.

We’re confident to offer this car for auction with an estimate of €14,000-€20,000.
