Background

The world was watching very closely when the Rolls-Royce Phantom VII was announced in 2003.

This was the first Rolls from BMW and, it turned out, would be the model that effectively rescued the marque and would give its German rival, Maybach, a very serious competitor at the top end of the market.

The body is mostly aluminium and the extrusions used to construct the aluminium spaceframe are produced by some hydroelectric sorcery in Norway, lovingly beaten into shape somewhere in Denmark, hand-welded in Germany and turned into a car at Goodwood.

The Series 2 Phantom VII (2013 onwards) is an extraordinary car in almost every imaginable way and comes with a price to match.

Today, the extended wheelbase version (EWB) starts at around $550,000.

The winning bidder will receive a receipt for the final hammer value, as their proof of purchase.

This vehicle has been on static display for a number of years and the documented history available is limited to that displayed in our photography section.

This 2013 Rolls-Royce Phantom is a LHD, auto, extended wheelbase (EWB) version with a limousine partition between the front and rear cabins.

Chassis No: SCA681L09DUX73799.

Engine No: 90020433.

The car’s odometer is showing just 145 km.

In common with many vehicles from the vendor’s collection, the car comes with no history or service records.

We understand from a few accompanying documents that the car was delivered new to the vendor’s collection of static display vehicles in 2013.

With the proviso that we haven’t tried to drive this vehicle and can therefore only comment on its cosmetic condition, we think this 2013 Rolls-Royce Phantom is effectively a brand-new car with only delivery kilometres to show for its 9 years of life.

Exterior

The bodywork is more or less pristine.

The panels are straight and even, the bodywork is free of any significant flaws, and the panel gaps and shut lines seem consistent and even.

The English White paint finish has retained all of its shine and lustre.

The chrome and exterior trim are in excellent condition, as are the lights, lenses, badging and all exterior fixtures and fittings.

The only thing you’ll want to do is remove the residue of sticky rubber at the top of the boot lid and the base of the front wings and doors where, we’re guessing, some bespoke badging had been previously applied.

The bottom of the boot lid still has some bespoke badging in situ, but we don’t know what it signifies.

Interior

The interior is in the same immaculate condition as the exterior.

All of it was designed to leave the owners and passengers of the time in no doubt that they were in something very special indeed.

And it’s still extremely impressive today.

The wood veneers on the dashboard, door cappings, picnic tables, steering wheel and various inserts are rich and glossy.

The carpets are deep enough to keep your ankles warm.

The metres of soft brown ‘Moccasin’ leather are sumptuous, inviting and appear to be entirely untroubled either by time or use. The seats, front and back, are uncreased and in what appears to be immaculate condition.

Like everything else in here, the door cards, curtains, central partition and headlining are all as good as new.

The umbrellas that should be inside the doors are still present.

All the Rolls-Royce (and BMW) toggles, stops, levers, switches and buttons are as shiny and classy as the day the engineers at Goodwood installed them (we can’t make any claims about their functionality as we haven’t tried to start or drive the vehicle).

There’s nothing so vulgar as a rev counter. Instead, the Phantom has a ‘Power Reserve’ meter. It does the same thing, only differently.

Everywhere you look there are hidden pockets, recessed spaces and secret doors.

There’s more storage space here than in the average apartment.

Mechanical

The undersides look as if they belong to a car that’s only covered 145km and has spent its entire life kept warm and dry inside.

Everything in the engine bay is in its right and proper place.

History

This car doesn’t come with any history or service records.

It must be registered in the country of your choice and you will need to contact the appropriate vehicle licensing agency for instructions on how to do this.

None of the paperwork shown in the gallery in any way constitutes any kind of licensing or registration certification.

Summary

The Phantom VII was a very important car for Rolls-Royce. New owners BMW stopped at nothing to create an automotive experience that had the dynamic abilities and engineering integrity to match its unrestrained, bespoke opulence.

And we think they succeeded.

We’re struggling to think of anything that conveys a greater sense of occasion.

We think this time-warp condition example is as close as you can get to a brand-new Phantom – but without the brand-new Phantom price.

Provided, of course, that the engine, electrics and mechanicals are as good as the rest of the car.

We’re confident to offer this car for auction with an estimate of €150,000 - €250,000.
