Background

Introduced in 2009, the Rolls-Royce Ghost was intended to do battle with cars such as the Bentley Flying Spur and V12 variants from Mercedes Benz. As such, it was pitched at a level below the Phantom (although there’s pretty much no level above the Phantom).

However….

"With the Ghost, Rolls-Royce has followed Bentley's lead and not been shy about making its 'entry-level' car substantially more powerful and therefore quicker than the flagship model above it." – Autocar.

Its name evoking that of the Edwardian-era Silver Ghost, the Rolls-Royce Ghost was conceived as a smaller and more affordable alternative to the range-topping Phantom, whose practical and aesthetically pleasing rear-hinged back doors it inherited.

The Ghost was powered by a 6.6-litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine, which delivered its 562bhp via a ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox and, despite the car’s not inconsiderable weight, could propel it to 100km/h in a frankly extraordinary 4.8 seconds.

Overview

This car is offered from outside of the European Union. It has been imported under temporary admission customs bond and is therefore subject to Dutch import tax (9%) on top of the winning bid price. Cars less than 30 years old will pay 10% Dutch import tax plus 21% VAT on the hammer. If exporting immediately to another country, then tax/duty will only be paid in that country.

The winning bidder will pay €500 customs charge on top of the ‘hammer’ price.

The winning bidder will receive a receipt for the final hammer value, as their proof of purchase.

This vehicle has been on static display in the Middle East for a number of years and the only history or paperwork available is displayed in the photo gallery. In all cases the papers shown are photocopies unless otherwise stated. We do not have the original paperwork.

Unless otherwise stated, we have not tried to start or drive the car, and cannot vouch for its mechanical viability or functionality. The car is not registered anywhere.

It will require recommissioning prior to road use and is sold ‘as seen’.

As CARS Europe BV is the guarantor of all customs duties and taxes for vehicles within Dutch customs bond, the car cannot be released until full payment received.

All storage charges (€30 + local VAT per day commencing from the sixth day following the auction end) must be paid in full prior to the vehicle’s collection or onward transportation. Collection and viewings are strictly by appointment only.

Please send an email to the storage centre to ensure vehicle(s) are ready at time of collection. Photographic ID will be required at time of collection. If a third party is collecting for you, then written authorisation is required in advance from you and photographic ID of the third party is required at the time of collection.

CARS Europe BV will contact you after the balance payment is received to confirm onward transport requirements. For enquiries about import tax and shipping contact Madam Joanna Herlihy, +31 (0) 252 682 526, +44 7483 433912, joanna@carseurope.net.

This 2010 Rolls-Royce Ghost is a LHD, auto version which was built to the ‘Swiss’ specification.

VIN: SCA664S05AUX34020.

The car’s odometer is showing just 844 kms.

In common with many vehicles from the vendor’s collection, the car comes with no history or service records.

We understand that the car was ordered new for the vendor in 2010 and entered his collection of static display vehicles in 2014.

With the proviso that we haven’t tried to drive this vehicle and can therefore only comment on its cosmetic condition, we think this 2010 Rolls-Royce Ghost is effectively a brand-new car with little more than delivery kilometres to show for its 12 years of life.

Exterior

The bodywork is, to all intents and purposes, pristine.

The panels are straight and even, and the panel gaps and shut lines seem consistent and crisp.

The ‘Silver Satin’ over ‘Darkest Tungsten’ paint finish has retained all of its shine and lustre.

The chrome and exterior trim are in excellent condition, as are the lights, lenses, badging and all exterior fixtures and fittings, including the Spirit of Ecstasy.

The wheels are seemingly untroubled either by time or use.

There is some sticky residue in one or two places where dealership (presumably) badges have been removed.

Interior

The interior is in the same virtually brand-new condition as the exterior.

The ‘Walnut Burr’ trim on the dashboard, door cappings and various inserts is rich and glossy.

The beige carpets are fine.

The metres of soft ‘Moccasin’ beige leather are sumptuous and devoid of any creases or other flaws that we can see.

The seats, front and back, appear to be in first class condition and are every bit as supportive and comfortable as you would hope and expect.

Like everything else in here, the door cards, headlining and trim are all pretty much as good as new.

There is a small patch of something sticky on the veneer above the glove box and also on the kick plates where some badging has been removed.

We can’t vouch for the full functionality of the car’s many toggles, stops, levers, switches, dials, buttons, etc, as we haven’t tried to drive the vehicle.

The boot is every bit as good as the rest of the car and contains tools, a first-aid kit and a Rolls-Royce owner’s manual.

Mechanical

Everything in the engine bay is in its right and proper place and entirely as you’d expect to find in a car that’s barely seen any use whatsoever.

Unsurprisingly, the car’s undersides seem only lightly acquainted with dirt or road use, and everything looks to have plenty of structural integrity.

History

This car doesn’t come with any history or service records.

It must be registered in the country of your choice and you will need to contact the appropriate vehicle licensing agency for instructions on how to do this.

None of the paperwork shown in the gallery in any way constitutes any kind of licensing or registration certification.

Summary

Provided, of course, that the engine, electrics and mechanicals are as exceptional as the rest of this magnificent car, we think this time-warp condition example is probably about as good as a used Rolls-Royce Ghost could possibly be.

We’re confident to offer this car for auction with an estimate of €80,000 - €120,000.
