Background
The enduring appeal of the original Range Rover allowed Jaguar Land Rover to expand the line-up in the mid 2000s, increasing the brand’s appeal to an even wider market. This expansion began with the launch of the Range Rover Sport in 2005, hot on the heels of the seductive Range Stormer concept vehicle.
Aimed at a younger audience seeking a more dynamic driving experience than was typically expected of a Land Rover, the first-generation Range Rover Sport was based on the Discovery 3’s steel chassis, and combined class-leading ability off-road with the refinement and versatility of a mid-size luxury SUV. Equipped with sensational V8 petrol engines or far more sensible V6 diesels, it was a wildly popular recipe.
Today, these vehicles can offer excellent value considering their combination of performance and usability – although much depends on their maintenance history and prior usage. Truly exceptional and unmodified examples are starting to attract attention from enthusiasts...
