Background
The first-generation Boxster was introduced by Porsche in 1996 after consultation with Toyota led them to share parts among models helping Porsche to slash its costs during a time when they were struggling from the poor selling 928. The Boxster is widely considered as the car that saved the brand and opened the manufacture to another section of the automotive buying market. It was also Porsche’s most popular model (based on production) until the Cayenne stole its thunder. It’s not hard to see why this car absolutely flew out of the showrooms despite its ‘nay sayers’ of the day, it’s a fantastic idea for a sports car and even today is an absolute bargain for what you get.
The Boxster was a mid-engine layout giving it a fantastic weight distribution of 50-50 front to back as well as a low centre of gravity resulting in some exceptional road handling performance. The Boxster S was given an upgrade in terms of styling and engine capacity in 2003 before the second generation was introduced in 2005.
