Background
Introduced in 1984, the Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 was the last incarnation of the ‘pure’ 911 and was a replacement for the SC model, made between 1978 and 1983.
The engine capacity was increased to 3.2-litres, Bosch fuel injection was fitted and power was up to 231bhp, at least for the European market. With a lack of driver aids such as ABS and power steering, the Carrera 3.2 is said to offer one of the purest 911 driving experiences, and that’s surely what we are all looking for?
Top speed is somewhere north of 150mph and with a 0-60mph time of under six seconds, this is a genuinely quick car even by today’s standards.
Rarest of them all is the ‘Turbo look’ wide body, known as the ‘Supersport’ in the UK. Initially only available on the coupe model, the lucky few would have had to place their order through the ‘Sonderwusch’ (special wishes) programme and stump up in excess of £10,000 over the base price.
In 1985 the programme was extended to both Cabriolet and Targa models and Porsche continued to offer the option until production ended in 1989 and the new 964 was launched.
Just 650 examples of the Supersport models made it to UK shores and they offered much more than just a ‘Turbo-look’ body. The following extras were fitted making this a standout 911 without a doubt; limited slip differential, upgraded Turbo suspension and brakes, wrap-around front spoiler, the famous ‘tea-tray’ rear spoiler and wider Fuchs alloy wheels.
Rarer still are the Targa variants. Only 220 right-hand drive examples were produced, and we are lucky enough to be offering for sale a prime example, and one with an extremely low mileage too.
