Background

The 997 shape 911 was introduced in 2004 and was an evolution of the 996, improving the interior and exterior, notably returning to more traditional 911 style headlamps after the unpopular ‘fried egg’ lights of the previous generation and the 3.6 litre flat six would now propel the Carrera to 60 in 5 seconds and a top speed of 177mph.

Many consider the 997 to be the last great 911, as later versions became more automated, the computers separating the driver from the road, although loaded with ECUs these are from a simpler, purer generation of car.

Overview

Starting life with its first owner in Belfast, it had two other keepers before the current owner bought it in 2015 from Porsche Brooklands Official Porsche Centre, as he was then a 996 owner but wanted a 997 in an exact spec and was happily surprised to find that perfect car in stock. As he has a number of cars it has not been used heavily and the mileage is still extremely low for a 2007 car, and whilst in his care has been kept garaged and all major and service work has been taken care of by Porsche Centres, including an engine rebuild in 2015 as the car was using oil, Brooklands OPC covering the work under Porsche warrenty, and the car has been faultless since then.

The car is only for sale as he has too many cars so is not getting the use it deserves.

Exterior

The factory applied metallic Cobalt blue paint is in excellent condition, almost glowing in the sun and with almost no marks noticeable on the upper surfaces - just some gravel rash on the inner lips of the rear arches and lower edges of the rear bumper, and some light stone chips on the front bumper. The panels are free of dents, and have even shut lines. The light lenses are bright and crystal clear front and back, the shield on the bonnet is excellent as is the script on the boot lid.

The alloy wheels are unmarked and wearing Pirelli P Zero tyres with deep tread all round. Opening the doors and boot and front trunk shows smooth paint and undamaged panels.

Interior

The stone grey leather of the interior extends from the seats to the door cards, dashboard and facia and steering wheel and with only 45,000 miles on the clock it is all in immaculate condition. The seats look almost as if they’ve not been sat in, the perforated centres have no wear and the bolsters are unmarked. The steering wheel has no scratches, and the dash top is like new.

Underfoot the carpet is excellent, and it continues onto the parcel shelf and rear seat backs, which fold forward to make a useful load space, and the headlining is also excellent.

Mechanical

In 2015, after the car was using more oil than it should, Brooklands Porsche investigated and found scored pistons and bores, so under warranty rebuilt the engine with new crankcase halfs and pistons. The car has covered 12,000 miles since the engine rebuild.

It also had its major 12 year service at Porsche Swindon in 2019, including coolant pipes all being changed under engine and front to back, which needed the tracking done afterwards as this involves dropping the sub frames.

In summer 2020 the air conditioning condensers were replaced and the system regassed.

For major work and servicing the car has visited Official Porsche dealers, but for lesser work a local Porsche specialist has been used, and the owner also changed the rear brakes in January 2021.

History

The car has been well cared for and had its major 12 year service from Porsche and all the cooling lines which involves dropping the engine and costs several thousand pounds. Fortunately the engine rebuild in 2015 was covered by a warranty, and should give the next owner peace of mind.

Summary

This 997 has been extremely well cared for, with few owners and low mileage. The condition is superb inside and out, and with very desirable colour and wheel combination it looks stunning. With a rebuilt engine and the cooling pipes taken care of by Porsche, the next owner should have great peace of mind that the big jobs have been taken care of.

Additionally, 997 prices continue to rise so the car should be a financially safe decision too! We expect this lovely example to sell for something between £27,500 - £34,500.
