Background

Produced in a little more than a thousand specimens and for only three years, from 1975 to 1977, the Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 is one of the rarest Carrera models in the G Series, the longest-lived (1973-89) in the Elfer history. Ideal link between the earlier 911 Carrera 2.7 (compared to which it is less "rough" and more progressive in power delivery) and the later 911 3.0 SC (more voted to comfort than to an exaggerated pursuit of performance), the 911 Carrera 3.0 can be recognized from the other models with shock-absorbing bumpers by some small details. These include: the headlamp bezels and exterior mirror hood (of the "elephant ear" type) in body color and the body profiles in matte black.

Overview

Identified by chassis number 9116600065, the 911 Carrera 3.0 for sale was manufactured and first registered in Bologna, Italy, in 1975, changing license plates in the second half of the 1980s as it passed to a second owner residing in another province. The odometer shows a mileage of 127,445 km.

Exterior

The 911 is mostly preserved. Over the years, the bodywork has probably been repainted in places, but always in a professional manner, as the paint thickness and color are uniform. Every component, from the window frames to the matte black details, such as the lettering on the engine cover, conforms to the original. The gold finish on the Fuchs alloy wheels and Carrera lettering on the sides is a factory specification (the car, the owner told us, was ordered new with this configuration). There are small little stone marks in the lower part of the front bumper - an area that is not visible, however. Otherwise, there are no traces of either scratches or stamps or rust spots. The tires are old and need to be replaced.

Interior

The interior is also preserved. The blue carpet covering the floor and underside of the door panels is intact and appears somewhat faded only in the area covering the back of the rear seatbacks. These are upholstered entirely in leatherette, while the seat and back of the front seats are upholstered in the classic Porsche plaid fabric of the time. The right shoulder pad on the driver's side seat has a couple of cuts, but this is a defect easily eliminated by a good upholsterer - not least because it is not difficult to find a material with a texture that conforms to the original. Perfectly intact is the dashboard with its typical five circular elements, as well as the leather steering wheel and gearshift. The headliner is clean and well-stretched.

Mechanical

The underbody is in good order, with no obvious signs of corrosion, even superficial corrosion. The bottoms and mechanical parts are ok. The engine compartment, inside which all the original identification plates are still present, is neat and well cleaned. The 2,994 cc air-cooled six-cylinder boxer engine is correct for the type of car and has the typical five-blade cooling big fan. The 911 does not need any extraordinary maintenance, as it has been used occasionally by its current owner for the past five years, but it does need a complete service with replacement of fluids and filters.

History

Previously owned by a lawyer from Piacenza, the 911 changed hands as part of a negotiation between sports car collectors. The car belongs to the current owner from about five years and has driven about 2-3,000 km since then.

Summary

The Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 is one of the rarest models in the G-Series, as well as one of the fastest, most fun and enjoyable in both relaxed everyday driving and more sporty driving. The 200 hp delivered by the boxer engine enables it to soar past 230 km/h, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.3 seconds. Truly impressive numbers for the mid-1970s. The specimen we offer is preserved in every part and is in very good condition, a sign that it has always been kept in good working order and it has been given all the proper care. Qualities that are far from taken for granted when one sets out on the trail of sports cars such as air-cooled Porsche 911s, which are often thoroughly exploited precisely because of their exceptional performance and mechanical robustness.
