Overview

Constructed entirely of carbon fiber and utilizing a chassis influenced by contemporary Le Mans prototype design, the EP9 cames with impressive credentials, including the capability to generate an unheard-of 3G of cornering force thanks to 2.7 tons of downforce at 150 mph. When fully equipped, the top speed is 194 mph, and 0-60 mph takes about 2.5 seconds.

Exterior

According to EP9 designer David Hilton (formerly of Bentley and Ford), styling was led by aerodynamics, and the car’s good looks are directly attributable to its function, for example the floating aero panels stemming from the car’s front fenders. These funnel air towards side scoops that provide vital cooling air for electrical components, while also paying tribute to classic internal combustion supercars.

A massive air channel runs down the center of the car, and this works with an active three-position rear wing to help achieve the car’s headline 3G cornering figure.

Interior

“The chassis is the interior”, said Hilton, referring to seats which are integral to the carbon fiber monocoque. There are four screens - one in the steering wheel, another on the structural dashboard, one central, and another ahead of the passenger. The first two provide driver-centric info such as speed and vehicle telemetry, the center screen displays performance and lap data, and the right side unit allows passengers to watch their heart rate rise with speed and lateral G load.

The steering wheel is based on the unit used by Next EV’s Formula E cars, and is made by the same supplier. Note the center console switches marked 12V, 750V and 3G - 12V is used for starting, 750V for normal power, and 3G opens up one full megawatt of power.

Drives are recorded by four different cameras, and video can be combined with vehicle telemetry for detailed lap analysis.

Mechanical

Though this example is sold without batteries and several mechanical components, the manufacturer can supply these items at no cost, however, shipping will need to be arranged via a third party. The manufacturer, the donor and the seller are not responsible for rendering this EP9 drivable or safe to drive. It is also important to consider that the EP9 was developed as a track car only, and cannot be registered for road use.

Fully equipped and charged, the EP9 is capable of cornering at 3G, and carbon-ceramic brakes developed with Alcon are said to achieve twice the power of those used in GT3 cars. Developed with track use in mind, the car is normally fitted with two rapid-change batteries, one inside each sill. These can also be charged while onboard via a plug, just as with much less exotic electric vehicles.

Wheels are driven by four 250 kW motors via individual 1:4.283 single-ratio gearboxes at each corner. Combined, these deliver 1,092 lb-ft of torque from zero rpm and blast the car through the quarter mile in 10.2 seconds at 153 mph.

History

This particular EP9 has been run at multiple racetracks throughout China, including Shanghai and Beijing International Circuits, as well as in Sepang, Malaysia, and Bruntingthorpe, England.

Summary

An impressive piece of cutting-edge engineering as well as a beautiful piece of design, this particular EP9 is now also a work of art.

IMPORTANT NOTE TO ALL BIDDERS:

This EP9 was developed as a track car only, and cannot be registered for road use.

This EP9 does not drive, as it is sold without batteries, motor assemblies and several other mechanical components. This EP9 is sold AS IS, without any warranty.
