“ The Issigonis Icon - Beautifully Presented ”

This is a very characterful, quirky, good-looking car with plenty going for it. It is a simple but effective classic and one that would make the ideal introduction into the world of classic car ownership. It benefits from low mileage and a great condition all round after having been looked after well for the past 8 years. We’d expect this car to provide plenty of ‘fun in the sun’ type thrills to whoever is fortunate enough to own it next.

Viewing is always encouraged, and this particular car is located with us at The Market HQ near Abingdon; we are open weekdays 9am-5pm, to arrange an appointment please use the Contact Seller button at the top of the listing. Background

Think of classic British motoring and perhaps images of the Classic Mini come to mind, perhaps some Triumphs, or maybe even an MG springs to mind, however you’ll be fighting off strong visions of the humble Morris Minor. Used in many a period drama to depict the era when it was introduced in the 1940’s the Minor was in production till early 1970.

The second evolution of the Minor, built from 1956-1971, was needed due to the introduction of the motorway, thus the humble 803cc engine was replaced with a 948cc unit and later a 1098cc powerplant of which we find in this example. This car auctioned here in this listing is a low mileage, low owner car (for its age) that has been well loved during the past 8 years with sparing use and regular maintenance.

Overview

The Morris was purchased in 2014 by the current owner as they were taken by the condition of the quirky convertible.

For the 8 years the car has been with the current owner, the car has been used sparingly, as you can see from the MoTs but ultimately taken care of well with anything that needed to be fixed, sorted along with a regular maintenance schedule.

This means it’s been very well preserved over the past 8 years and should provide the new owner with plenty more miles of simplistic bliss.

Exterior

Since we have already mentioned it and it forms the top of the car, the hood seems like a good place to start our description of the exterior. The car will have started life as a saloon and been converted at some point in the past, but the hood was new when the car was bought by the current owner. Due to this and the sparing use the car has had, it is in great condition, from what we can see, no rips, tears or scuffs, it has a tight fit and a good structure.

Moving onto the body, the paint work is in great condition with very few imperfections, there are a few things to mention such as the mark on the rear window surrounds at the top where the metal meets the hood. There are also some very small marks here and there, but it is well below the level of normal wear you would expect for the car’s age and mileage.

The chrome work helps to accentuate the lines of the body and give a bit more emphasis to the body colour. The chrome on this Minor is in good condition too, there is some small areas of pitting but on the whole the chrome is in good shape.

Moving down to the wheels, which are painted steels with chrome hub caps, wrapped in relatively new looking tyres, with plenty of tread of course. The wheels themselves are in good condition too from what we can see, the cream painted steels providing a retro contrast to the blue exterior body paint.

Interior

The Morris’ interior is a simple but pleasant one, similar to that of early Minis, perhaps unsurprisingly as they were stable mates and also shared the same engine. The interior here is a lighter colour blue to compliment the exterior darker blue. The leather upholstery is in good condition all round save for a two-inch nick on the rear bench. The rest of the leather and the door cards seem to be in good shape and really tie the whole car together.

The dash is simple and houses the central mounted instrument, showing MPH, fuel, and mileage. The toggles and switch gear are also in good condition and all electrics are reported to be working.

The large, two spoke, bus like steering wheel is fading a little in the centre but seems to be in good shape otherwise. Same goes for the dash itself and the other interior furniture such as gear knob, handles and such.

In the boot, it’s equally as simple and the metalwork in here is in good condition too, it houses a spare wheel with equal condition tyre and simplistic tool kit of a jack, wheel nut tool and spare fan belt. If there was a hammer and a spanner, you’d have all you need to work on the car on the side of the road.

Mechanical

Before we get on the floor to look under the Morris, we’ll take a look under the bonnet. Here you’ll find the characterful A-series, in 1098cc form, and this example looks to be in good visual condition and if you take some time to watch the video below, you’ll hear that it also sounds to be in fine fettle too. Please do take some time to look through the photo gallery to see all the related photos of the engine bay.

Moving under the car then, and everything looks to be in order here. The underseal has lasted well on the Morris and there looks to be only some superficial surface bloom on the leaf springs, not something that would be out of place on a 5-year-old car. There are some rubber bushings that look as though they could do with a change but if that is the sum of your worries then you’re doing ok.

The exhaust system looks to be in good condition and certainly gives an intoxicating rasp when the A-series is given a boot full, the rest of the components under the car such as the rear axle, suspension components and structural beams all present very well with no obvious signs which might cause worry.

History

The Morris comes with some service history as well as a V5C showing 8 previous keepers, being in the possession of the current one since 2014. It also comes with a set of keys, a clean HPI check and some owner’s club magazines. The service history is summarised below.
