PLEASE NOTE THAT AN AUCTION PREMIUM WILL BE CHARGED, ON TOP OF THE HAMMER PRICE, OF 5% (+VAT IN UK AND EUROPE). FROM 16TH JAN'23 THIS APPLIES TO ALL AUCTIONS ON THE MARKET, AND FEES ARE MIN €720 / MAX €7,200.

Alongside authentic Made-in-Japan holy monsters such as the Toyota Supra, Mazda RX-7 and Nissan 300 ZX, the Mitsubishi 3000 GT represents one of the most important examples of Japanese automotive culture applied to the concept of the sports car. Built from 1990 to 2001, this "beast" in Japan is known more simply as the GTO, while in Britain it was sold under the trade name 3000 GT and in the United States - where over the years it has become a true icon for fans of the genre - as the Dodge Stealth. Powered by a DHOC 3.0-litre, twin-turbocharged V6 which produces 286 bhp, this four-wheel-drive and four-wheel steering coupe is capable of a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph) and is glued to the road thanks to good aerodynamic efficiency, improved by the front and rear spoilers (both electrically adjustable). The excellent acceleration is even better in the second-generation models (built from 1994 to 2001): the new six-speed Getrag manual transmission, which replaces the old five-speed unit, allows the 0-60 mph time to be lowered from 5.2 to just 4.7 seconds. A massive achievement for the time, given that the much more luxurious and expensive Ferrari F355 could do no better despite having more than 100 hp.

Overview

The example for sale, identified by chassis number JMBMJZ16AXY000202, is registered in Spain and comes with all the documents required for circulation by that country's highway code. The odometer shows a mileage of 98,000 km. The car comes with a Cliford alarm system with an electronic immobilizer and has spent most of its time in a garage since it was wholly repainted a few years ago. In the last period, it was used mostly on weekends. The original seventeen-inch star alloy wheels have been replaced with 19-inch multi-spoke wheels.

Exterior

As shown by the photos, externally the car is in excellent order as it was totally resprayed some years ago. The couplings between the fixed and movable body parts are well aligned, and the black paint is uniform on all panels, with no changes in tone when exposed to light. The car's headlight caps and glazed parts are perfectly intact, with no cracks or fading. All the logos, from the "3000 GT" initials to the rear to the "Twin Turbo" lettering on the second window and "Active Aero" on the front spoiler adorned, are also clearly visible and not worn. Also, perfectly intact and shiny are the aftermarket alloy wheels.

Interior

The interior also is in excellent order. The black leather covering the front and rear seats, part of the door panels, steering wheel, shift knob and gearshift and handbrake covers are lined was exceptionally well preserved. The seats, looking at the photos, show no signs of sagging or noteworthy blemishes, except for the "physiological" slight cracking of the upper sidewall of the driver's seat. The dashboard, constructed of quality plastic and assembled with care, has no cracks or damaged parts, and all the icons indicating the function of the various buttons are clearly legible. Also in good condition is the carpet covering the floor and the headliner, which is well stretched.

Mechanical

The engine compartment is very well-cleaned and dry. The iron and plastic piping are all in excellent condition, and there is no trace of corrosion, not even superficial. Also, practically as new are the intake ducts and the engine block cover. As mentioned earlier, the history of maintenance goes all the way back to 2008. Still, we know from the current owner that the car has always been kept in good working order to be used by him on the many weekends of good weather given by the mild winters and sunny summers on the island of Majorca, where the car is currently located. The underbody is in very good order, with still the layer of antirumble to protect it in all its parts and without the slightest corrosion on the suspension or the exhaust line.

History

The car was first registered in Switzerland, and the current owner bought it in 2008 and registered it in Spain. As far as he knows it only had one previous owner and when he bought the car it had 45,000 KM on the odometer. Looking at the photographs the car seems to have no defects or problems that would prevent its immediate use, although it may need a workshop check and a small service. In short, nothing strange when you buy a second-hand car more than 20 years old.

Summary

Few other models convey the all-Japanese passion for super sports cars like the Mitsubishi 3000 GT. To the well-known build care of Made-in-Japan cars, this 1990s sports coupé adds a hefty dose of charm, with its simultaneously soft and muscular bodywork and truly remarkable performance, capable, at times, of putting cars of the same class but of far superior lineage to shame. At a price still within reach of many, this modern classic Japanese is a car with which there is no risk of going unnoticed. What's more, it is powerful and safe, and it manages to satisfy even the most experienced drivers with its great sprinting prowess and the exceptional driving dynamics that come from the combination of an all-wheel-drive system and a steered rear axle. The example for sale is in excellent condition and with its "total black" look is both sporty and elegant. In short, this is an opportunity that certainly does not come along every day for connoisseurs of the genre.

Price estimate for this Mitsubishi 3000 GT: € 7.500 - € 15.000
