PLEASE NOTE THAT AN AUCTION PREMIUM WILL BE CHARGED, ON TOP OF THE HAMMER PRICE, OF 5% (+VAT IN UK AND EUROPE). FROM 16TH JAN'23 THIS APPLIES TO ALL AUCTIONS ON THE MARKET, AND FEES ARE MIN €720 / MAX €7,200.

The MG XPower SV sports car was produced by MG Rover, built in Modena, Italy, and finished at Longbridge, Birmingham.

The production model was launched in 2002, having been styled by Peter Stevens, the man responsible for the exterior design of the McLaren F1.

Having bought the Italian car manufacturer, Qvale, MG Rover imagined that by building a car on the same platform as the homologated Qvale Mangusta (which had started life as the De Tomaso Biguà), they might be able to build sales in the USA.

As it turned out, only 82 cars production cars were ever made. Just one was sold in the USA. Rowan Atkinson purchased an XPower SV in February 2005.

These were complex and expensive cars to build (and buy), not least because carbon fibre was used extensively in the production of the body panels.

The XPower SV-R, released in 2003, came with a 5.0-litre 32-valve V8 developing anywhere from 385 bhp to 410 bhp, depending on which source of information you consult.

The top speed was said to be 281km/h, with 100km/h mph coming up in just 4.9 seconds.

The SV-R cost £83,000 in 2003.

Only 42 of them were ever made.

MG closed its gates and went into administration in 2005.

Overview

This car is offered from outside of the European Union. It has been imported under temporary admission customs bond and is therefore subject to Dutch import tax (9%) on top of the winning bid price. Cars less than 30 years old will pay 10% Dutch import tax plus 21% VAT on the hammer. If exporting immediately to another country, then tax/duty will only be paid in that country.

The winning bidder will pay €500 customs charge on top of the ‘hammer’ price.

The winning bidder will receive a receipt for the final hammer value, as their proof of purchase.

This vehicle has been on static display in the Middle East for a number of years and the only history or paperwork available is displayed in the photo gallery. In all cases the papers shown are photocopies unless otherwise stated. We do not have the original paperwork.

Unless otherwise stated, we have not tried to start or drive the car and cannot vouch for its mechanical viability or functionality. The car is not registered anywhere.

It will require recommissioning prior to road use and is sold ‘as seen’.

As CARS Europe BV is the guarantor of all customs duties and taxes for vehicles within Dutch customs bond, the car cannot be released until full payment received.

All storage charges (€30 + local VAT per day commencing from the sixth day following the auction end) must be paid in full prior to the vehicle’s collection or onward transportation. Collection and viewings are strictly by appointment only.

Please send an email to the storage centre to ensure vehicle(s) are ready at time of collection. Photographic ID will be required at time of collection. If a third party is collecting for you, then written authorisation is required in advance from you and photographic ID of the third party is required at the time of collection.

CARS Europe BV will contact you after the balance payment is received to confirm onward transport requirements. For enquiries about import tax and shipping contact Madam Joanna Herlihy, +31 (0) 252 682 526, +44 7483 433912, joanna@carseurope.net.

In common with many vehicles from the vendor’s collection, this LHD manual car comes with no history or service records.

We haven’t been able to start or drive the car - and therefore we can only comment on its cosmetic appearance - but we have got power to the dashboard and been able to read the odometer, which is showing the remarkably low figure of 84 kms.

We have also been unable to open the boot.

Exterior

All that separates this from being a brand-new car is the passage of time and one or two minor blemishes.

It certainly hasn’t been burdened by use, wear or kilometres, and that lack of activity is evident in the car’s impressive external condition.

The green metallic paintwork gleams with a real depth of shine.

The bodywork has no dents, dinks or creases of any significance.

The panel gaps and shut lines are tight and consistent.

The car’s wheels, lights, lenses, badging and exterior trim are all excellent.

There are one or two scratches and scuffs on the front valance and on both sills.

Some of the black rubber trim around the doors has turned slightly milky in colour.

Interior

The good news continues on the inside, where the car shows equally few signs of age or use.

The very purposeful-looking interior (the racing harnesses are a clue to the car’s intent and potential) has barely been sat in and, accordingly, everything looks pretty much showroom-fresh.

The black leather bucket seats are supportive and comfortable.

The door cards are intact and undamaged. The headlining, carpets and mats are all good.

So, too, are the dashboard, instruments and all other internal fixtures and fittings, as far as we can see. That said, there’s evidence of the car’s Italian build history on some of the controls on the centre console, where you’ll find the ‘sticky button syndrome’ found on many Maranello products of a similar vintage.

The carbon-fibre inserts are in good order everywhere.

We can’t make any claims about the functionality of switches, knobs, levers, toggles, buttons, dials or other electrics as we haven’t started or driven the car.

Mechanical

The clean, dry engine and engine bay look fine and the undersides of the car appear to have plenty of structural integrity.

History

This car comes with no history and no service records.

It must be registered in the country of your choice and you will need to contact the appropriate vehicle licensing agency for instructions on how to do this.

No documents shown in the gallery in any way constitute any kind of licensing or registration certification unless otherwise stated.

Summary

This very rare car is effectively unused and has spent its life kept warm and dry on static display.

Provided, of course, that the engine and mechanicals are as impressive as the rest of it, this car just needs a new owner to impress with its performance and flair.

We’re confident to offer this car for auction with an estimate of €40,000-€50,000.
