Background
First unveiled at the 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show, the W221-model S-Class sat atop the Mercedes-Benz range during its seven-year production run, from 2006 to 2013. During this time, it found favour with the elite, wealthy and powerful of the world, including the President of Germany (who utilised an armoured S600 Guard model) and other heads of state.
Available from launch with a number of engines, trims, configurations and wheelbase lengths, it is hardly surprising that those with enough money to purchase such opulent and luxurious vehicles would then want to further customise them to their tastes. Whilst there are a multitude of aftermarket customisation houses out there, none are more intrinsically tied to the Mercedes-Benz brand than BRABUS.
Notably, the tuning program for the W221 offered by BRABUS more-or-less coincided with the launch of the standard vehicle, with a number of packages available to upgrade and customise the S-Class both aesthetically and visually.
Retaining the level of interior comfort and opulence expected from an S-Class, the packages instead focused on upgraded performance and external visual tweaks, including a redesigned front bumper with quad-lights, sports exhaust systems, carbon-fibre detailing, BRABUS-specific wheels, suspension system tweaks and engine tuning chips.
