Background
The CL series’ second generation, designated C215, ran from 1998 to 2006 and was considered by Mercedes as their premier model.
Based on the W220 S-class, it was 8-inches shorter with a unibody chassis, of which the floor pan, chassis rails and A-pillars were steel, the roof and rear wing sections were aluminium, the door frames were magnesium, and the boot and front wings were plastic composite.
The CL-class was offered in 7 different forms with the example being auction here being the CL-55 AMG model with a naturally aspirated V8 mated to either a 5-speed or a 7-speed automatic gearbox.
