Background
The second-generation S Class was revealed to the world at the Frankfurt motorshow in 1979 and stayed in production until 1991, and was the ultimate luxury car throughout the ‘80s.
Unmistakably a Mercedes, it was styled by chief designer Bruno Sacco and married traditional Mercedes qualities with new technology such as lighter high strength steel in the shell, and adopted advanced safety items such as ABS, traction control and a driver’s air bag as they became available, while inside it gained luxuries such as automatic climate control and was the first Mercedes with power seat controls in the shape of a seat.
